another solar scope question

Recommended Posts

Reading old threads about wherever it might be better to get a dedicatet solar scope (lets say a Lunt 60) or front mounted filter for your excisting scope.

It was pointet out a few times that the internal ethalon in the Lunt will give your sweet spots (unless you have the PT I guess) but the front mounted one wont.

So my question is will the external filter I could mount on my Apo be in this respect be equivalant to the more expensive PT version of the Lunt 60.

(Plus I can save on the FT option as well as my scope has already a decent focuser :D )

Yes,

is the basic answer.

I use a SolarMax 60 aperture filter on an ED80 with a BF15 blocking filter. Works very well.

Interesting comment re PT and sweet spot - be interested in feed back - I've never tried one.
