I was thinking of purchasing a moon filter,is it worth buying and if so what will it do for my view os the moon? Thx john:)

Hi John,

Yes it will be worth purchasing a moon filter as the moon is so bright, especially when more than a quarter full, it will make it more comfortable to view.

i didnt use a moon filter for the first few viewing sessions and after a while when watching the full moon my eye was a little strained . when i eventually bought one I was supprised at how much difference it made and it really does improve the comfort. Also the cotrast is alot better. Easily worth a tenner!

I found looking at a bright moon a bit painful on the eye. with a filter its so much nicer. Also you dont keep seeing 3 hours later with your eyes shut :-)

Thanks guys are there different sorts of moon filters available?are any 'better' than the others or is it just a standard thing?

I have a variable polarising filter. They are more pricey (£30-40) but allow you to adjust the amount of light that comes through. That way you can dim it more for a full moon, say, than a first quarter moon.
