Photography and weather?

I was wondering, how haze affects photography? in my area of the world we get a lot of it this time of year.

Sometimes I get haze from London now and again, (there's always a bit) tend to find long distant shots (on terraferma) loose contrast and are just drab looking. As for astro, same again - with the addition of star bloat in subs, just try and to stick to the zenith + 20 degrees when it's really bad.

Mind you, we had a evening of shockingly clear sky the other day and could see for miles.
