Combining CCD and DSLR images?

Recommended Posts

Being in a pensive mood and playing with Starry Night Pro I've been thinking again, which is usually dangerous, about layering an image from the mono CCD as a luminance layer for the colour data from the DSLR.

The reasoning is as follows:-

I haven't got RGB filters yet.

I think that its usual to bin the colours 2X.

The CCD will get an excellent detailed B&W image.

The DSLR could get a colour image with noise problems.

So the plan is to "Pimp my DSLR images" by using the CCD to sharpen the edges up a bit. Any obvious reasons that it won't work?
