  1. Hi Adam, I think thats a cracking image 👍. What were the lengths of the individual subs ? I only ask, as i'm looking at a 383L myself. At the moment, its a toss up between that and the ASI1600MM. The thing that keeps swaying me away from the ASI is the microlensing issue that particular CMOS sensor has.

Regards John, and keep up the good work.

Forgot to add, yes, i do realise that the 383L+ uses a ccd sensor, but ive been interested by the images ive seen on astrobin

  2. Hi Brenski,

+1 for sharpcap. I would also recommend for lunar and planetary imaging you crank up the frame rate.  5 fps is a bit slow. I've just checked the spec of your camera on FLO website, and at 3096 X 2080, your max frame rate can achieve up to 30 fps, is suggest you use this setting. And on Lunar, try taking a 1 minute capture, stacking in Autostakkert, and keeping the best 50% of frames. I've not used Autostakkert in a while, but there are plenty of online guides.

  3. Hi OYMD,

It seems to me, the seller wasn't as genuine as he sounded. From the images you've shared, he's definitely tried to do some kind of mod, which he didn't inform you about.  Unfortunately, when buying second hand online, that's a chance you take. At least on SGL, the majority are genuine sales, from people like us, who are mostly selling on, due to upgrading or having clear outs of equipment they don't use anymore, and on this site, people usually reply back to the seller with positive feedback in the sales forum.

I'm Just curios, and don't know if its this is against SGL rules, i'm sure a moderator will inform me, but would you disclose the site you purchased from ? If you don't want to, that's no problem,

And BTW, welcome to the frustrating at times, but very rewarding world of astrophotography 👍

    Thanks for the reply:

    - does that mean you can pulse guide with it or only using ST4?

    - the scope & price look good but the reviews are mixed?

    Graham

    Hi Graham,

Pulse guiding in a nutshell means you interface through ascom direct from PC to mount, or via the hand controller.  What mount will you be using for your widefield rig ?

Also, for what you want to do, you may as well just use a 9X50 guidescope and by an adaptor from modernastronomy for your ASI120MC. What may i ask do you want to pulse guide rather than via the ST4 port ?

  5. Im Sorry if i am getting political here, but we are being constantly told by both local and national politicians, about cutting down on our usage of electricity and gas, and we are even being penalised by so called green taxes. Its not only Brighton football club, go around most towns and city centres at night and see how many commercial premises leave there lights on all night. It seems to me, we are living in a hypocritical society. One rule for you and I, another for businesses. Whatever happened to leading by example ?. Time for new legislation me thinks. You couldn't make this up.

How do you have an observatory & image, with an unmodified DSLR? You sure, it isn't your backyard? In the U.S, private observatory cameras are still $10-$30K & those 'scopes still use spectrometers. 2-4 hr continuous recordings, at minimum, for private amateur non-sponsored state observatories.  They wil still not be sponsored, by the state or nation.

    From Online Dictionary

"a room or building housing an astronomical telescope or other scientific equipment for the study of natural phenomena."

  7. Unfortunately Bobby, that would not really be an upgrade to your modded 450D. To see any kind of benefit, you really need a Cooled camera. The cooled version of the 183MC is £200 more expensive, so you would be better off saving a bit more and going for that. There is a used one on UK Astro Buy/sell at the moment for £500,

He states its less than 12 months old, but he is the second owner ? Curious to know why though.

hi John not the standard lens its the L so much better colour and much less chromatic aberration and thanks for the tips i just don't want to push it to much.

Didn't know it was the L lens, yes, great lenses. I was almost going to buy myself one ( if it it were the standard 70-300 )  😂

  9. Hi Chris,

That image for a standard 70-300 lens is fantastic. The only way i could think of improving on this would to be maybe try tweaking the contrast and darkening the blacks slightly. All in all, a great image.

  10. Hi Rich,

Regarding This question, i work in the automotive industry, and specialise in Aluminium Vehicles, and they have to go through vigorous VOSA Crash testing, so from this, they pass the regulation tests, at tons of force, so i think, IMHO, it would not mater, especially at the short focal lengths of these imaging Newtonian's. Also bear in mind, a tubular construction is very rigid. Also you have the added advantage of aluminium of being lighter. This is my input, but would be interested in others views on this subject.
