  1. Looking for an Intel NUC, minimum of i3 processor, 8 gig ram, 120SSD, 5 USB ports and WiFi (these are minimum specs). Might also consider the fanless models with dual WiFi antennas.

Also looking for the Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox or similar device with multiple 12volt outputs and possibly a variable voltage o/p to feed power to my DSLR.

Many thanks for reading and a Happy New Year.

  2. Happy Christmas  :)

A quick question on the Prima Luce Eagle range of astro computers please.  Can it control multiple cameras simultaneously ?

I have 2x DSLR's which I would like to run with Backyard EOS and an ASI178MC that I would like to run with Sharpcap. I have done a little googling to try and find a multiple camera setup but struggling to see confirmation that it can.

I had considered other solutions from other vendors and indeed the basic Prima Luce Eagle Core and I only see 1x DSLR and/or 1x CCD/CMOS and in some instances, the latter can only be used as a guide scope.

If the Eagle S or Eagle 3 are unable to fulfil this role I might have to go to the Intel Nuc and Pegasus Pocket Powerbox solution instead.

Thanks for your help, this is the final stage for remoting my observatory  :)

  3. Celestron C8 XLT + extras and SkyWatcher Star Travel 80 (ST80)

I have a Celestron C8 with XLT Starbrite coatings. Will include the full length base plate, both visual and imaging backs, scope rings, front 8" end cap and the finder scope with it. No box I'm afraid. Optics are good and clean, focal length is huge - 2300mm from memory. This lot would cost close to £1300 new and one with less spec went for £750 on fleabay recently. Might be interested in a part exchange or will let it go for £450 collection only.

Also, I have a SkyWatcher Star Traveler 80 - good optics, used as a guide scope - just the scope itself (does not include the barlow in the photo) - now including dovetail bar and scope rings looking at around £50 for it.

I have decided to save up for another refractor, WO, Equinox or even toward an Esprit. However, I would also consider p/ex for an Intel NUC and/or Pegasus Astro Pocket Powerbox.

Please excuse some of the colours - I used my astro modded 6D which was in the observatory so the "nice" purple is actually black !!

    Both these are collection only.

  4. Does anyone on here use the above filter in their setup and if so, what are your thoughts ?

It is currently on special offer and I'm struggling  (against the "bank of wife") to justify spending £200 for the EOS XL CLS-CCD.

I have a full spectrum modified Canon 6D and looking to put this on the end of the nosepiece into a SkyWatcher Equinox refractor.

Also considering putting my Ikharos field flattener in the optical path but that now might not work with full frame.

I have looked at a few photos on Astrobin and I must admit, it looks pretty good but is it really a bargain or a near miss ?  ;)

  5. I have a leaky Sky ShedPod at the usual two spots that a few others have been experiencing (ie at the hinges).

Followed a few suggestions and put some neoprene strips along the edge and even put silicone around the area to form a "dam/run-off" but I do live in Yorkshire and get some very wet weather  ;)

Does anyone know of "covers" that might go over the dome, got to be neat'ish or "her ladyship" will kill me !!

I have seen photo's of some home brew solutions but could not find an email address to chase up.

  6. Hi,
I am about to take delivery of a full spectrum modified Canon 6D and know it will require a UV/IR cut filter.

I had considered the XL size clip filter but think I will go with the 2" screw in filter instead but I am stuck between 3 filters at varying prices !

    IDAS LPS D1
    Altair Astro Premium CLS-CCD UV/IR
    Astronomik CLS-CCD

I will be imaging both emission nebulas and galaxies and because of the latter I have ruled out both Duo and Tri band filters. I will probably save up for a set of narrowband filters at a later stage ... once the bruises have healed over after the "bank of wife" found out I require a filter in addition !

The cheaper Altair Astro (half the cost) immediately springs to mind but I do not know if this works with a full spectrum modified DSLR (full frame). I do want to avoid vignetting if possible.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Steve

  7. I have just sold my Sony A7S astro modded and decided to stick with Canon primarily for conducting workshops and ease of teaching ... and it will make the remoting of the observatory a lot easier.

Are there any top end Canon DSLR's for sale out there. I would consider a 6D (full spectrum). I have also seen a couple of cooled 6D cameras pop up from time to time but missed out in the past lol

I have tried messaging a couple of specialised dealers that have new and used Canon 6D's on their webpage but not received any reply and not sure if they are trading any longer ?

    Many thanks for reading.

  8. Well, progress has not only been made, the observatory is almost ready for action.

The next stage is to accurately polar align the mount. I have already placed a "wanted" advert for a QHY Polemaster as I am wanting the alignment to be perfect.

I recently purchased a Skyfi + Sky Safari Plus and also a MESH WiFi network allowing remote coverage of the observatory.

After delivering astrophotography talks locally, I have been asked to provide some workshops and tuition. Once I am happy with pointing accuracy and comfortable in object selection (I am rusty) I will be progressing with these.

If anyone is interested and living around the Filey area then don't hesitate to drop me a pm. This is a hobby that needs to be shared and learning as a group is the best way to develop skills.

    Best wishes,

    Steve

  9. Selling an NEQ6 Pro tripod (complete) + extension tube + vibration suppression pads all in white (except the pads)

This is in excellent condition and the reason for sale is I now have a pier and the head is installed on this.

This includes the spreading plate and the long bolt.In addition, there is also a top plate for the extension tube not shown in the photo. The top plate does not have the "dowel" that the azimuth bolts tighten up against as that was needed on the pier.

I will also throw in 3 plates for the tripod feet so it is totally stable with sited on grass.

List price on these is over £200 and looking for around £150 or may trade for astro software / 2" filters and I am also after a QHY Polemaster with an EQ6 bracket

Item must be collected from near Filey in North Yorkshire as this is heavy and I would not trust a courier service.

  10. Having recently replaced my astrophotography camera, I now have the old one up for sale on an astro site. However, doesn't hurt advertising it here :)

Here is an astro modified Canon Rebel xsi which is the Canon 450D equivalent. It is "good" condition and fully working order but does have some light scratches to the rear screen. I have tried to photograph these but they do not show up when the camera is switched on

Shutter count is 3860 which is extremely low.

Also included are the following :

Astronomik CLS clip filter which really is fantastic and makes a huge difference. It also adds additional dust protection.

Battery system / dc coupler - connects to a figure of 8 lead (IEC C7 Power Lead) - I might have one spare if deemed absolutely necessary. This device provides permanent power to the camera for those long nights - brilliant !

    3 batteries and multi-voltage charger (mains / 12volt / 24volt)

I do not have the original box but it can be posted to UK address.

I would prefer collection (near Filey, North Yorkshire) but willing to post if you cover Paypal fees.

I might have a couple more batteries in other camera bags !!

Reason for sale is purchase of an astro modified Sony A7S with canon lens adaptor.

Including a few photos taken with this camera. Two of these images were placed 1st and 3rd in two separate Astrofest competitions in Yorkshire (York and Hull).
