  1. Thanks everyone for the replies, I wasn't really aware of the idea of different EPs suiting different telescopes, something else to have fun learning along the way. 😂
  2. I was hoping someone might say this as I did wonder about this at first, but then I've also read about the idea of buying the best you can first time round in fixed lengths. I think it might be the way to go thanks.
  3. I've got a SW 150/750 reflector that takes 1.25 EPs. I'm currently thinking of getting three or four different BST Starguider EPs for it but might also consider a zoom. My question is, coming from a photography background it was always said that a prime lens was better than a zoom for quality, is the same true in astronomy? Using a 2x converter would also degrade quality as well, is this also the same when using a barlow, ie. if I use a BST 25mm with a balow would the image quality be the same as using a 12mm BST?
  4. If possible a dog is the best alarm you can get.
  5. Thanks everyone, forgot to mention it's on an EQ3-2 mount, no tracking though.
  6. I've got a 150mm F5 reflector, and my son has a DSLR, I'll not be adding any more equipment as I like observing, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do with what I have available as regards imaging?
  7. That's what it is, but a 1.25 size only. I like the look of the Lacerta but it says for 200mm and above, mine's only a 150mm.
  8. That's lovely, I'd feel like I was James Bond every time I opened that.
  9. That looks like a good idea, I've got exactly the same grease lying around from my cycling days.
  10. I have this Skywatcher 150 with a 1.25 focuser, the hole centres of the screws on the horizontal across the top are approx 68mm, and I'd like to fit a dual speed focuser to it. I've contacted the UK importers who say they have nothing available, does anyone know of anything that might do the job?
  11. Thanks Alan, I'm familiar with polarising filters in photography, but would a standard moon filter do a similar job in this case?
  12. Do you have a local club that you could visit, you're likely to be able to try a few different ones out and pick up some good advice as well?
  13. Trying to look at Jupiter a few nights ago with the SR4 was what prompted this post, I could see the colour bands but not focus sharply on them.
  14. I've recently got a second hand scope and at the moment am using the eyepieces that came with a Celestron Firstscope. I'm looking to get some new eps but was looking at around £50 for each one. They'll be for all around observing, moon, planets, maybe some DSOs, I'm not really into any particular subject at the moment. I was looking at some older posts on here and decided on BST Starguiders in about four different sizes, something like 3mm, 5/8mm, 15mm, and 25mm. Am I thinking along the right lines here or are there better alternatives, I don't mind spending the same on second hand if the right thing becomes available? Edited to add: size I'm after is 1.25".
  15. Thanks guys, I was hoping that it might help me focus better, but I'm not sure if it'll make any difference as I'm limited by the poor eyepieces. I'm also thinking about upgrading the focuser sometime in the future.
  16. I've recently got a Skywatcher 150 newtonian and am using it with the eps that came with a Celestron Firstscope, which will be upgraded to BSTs over the next few months. But is there any advantage to be gained by using a mask mainly for planetary observing?
  17. Thanks Louis, according to that Orion manual it looks like I accidentally got it right. 😊
  18. Greetings all, this is your latest, 'bought something second hand off Marketplace without doing enough research,' type of person. I've had the scope for a few months now and decided to have a go at collimating it, but the primary has no adjusting screws so I'm a bit stuck, anyone got advice for me please?
