OK - the external measurements are .....

    External 1500mm x 1500mm

Height to top of door (exc roof) 1300mm

    Internal 1400mm x 1400 x 1300mm

The inverted V shaped strip across the join in the roof halves is fixed and sealed to one of the roof halves (the side that faces the prevailing wind). The seal between this capping strip and the other half of the roof is sealed with a strip of butyl weatherproof non adhesive (one one side!) tape. The half that the capping strip is permanently fastened to must always be opened first and closed last.

Hope the following photos and brief (amateur!) video help.

Fire away with any questions and I will do my best to assist.

Thanks David. I suspected that was the design, nice to see it works. I'll be building my micro obs this year and still pondering a few different roof designs.

    Hello Gary

I will take some photos when it stops raining - much easier than trying to explain in words.

Its not difficult and even during biblical rain and high winds (like today!) it is bone dry.

    All the best.

    David.

    Thanks David

  3. Howdy,

Its been a while since I lasted posted in here, just getting back into imaging. I am still using a 1000d and think the its time I up'd my game and got a dedicated astro camera. I have been looking around all the various online shops and have a few cameras on my short list, most I can find reviews online for but I cant find any reviews, bad or good, for the Explore Scientific 16MP Deep Sky Astro camera.

Anyone on here using one, or know of someone using one? Is it a good camera? Is it ascom compatible and can be controlled via any of the usual complete imaging sequence programs such as APT, NINA, etc?

    Thanks,

    Gary

  4. Howdy,

Still on my mission buying my kit for my return to imaging. I want to use one of the new 'all in one' mount/camera control gadgets like the Stellarmate or ASIAir.

I have done quite a bit of research on the ASIAir, which presently has limitations that are putting me off, mostly its inability to connect to a HEQ5 via eqmod to Skysafari, only through Synscan. This means I'd have to 3 star align the mount through the hand set before I could sync through plate solving to ASIAir. (maybe my understanding of this limitaion is flawed)

Anyway, I have now found out about Stellarmate which looks similar to ASIAir but the software seems more 'complete'

I am not bothered about the ASIAir only being compatible with ZWO cameras, I will start of with my trusty 1000d as it is supported and upgrade to a ASI294MC Pro at some point.

So, questions, what are the pro's and con's of both ASIAir and Stellarmate? They are similarly priced but as I said the Sterllarmate seems more complete.

Which is better, which would you buy?

    Cheers,

    Gaz

  5. Why not? I know about the theory of EQ mounts not requiring to be levelled but I don't buy into that I'm afraid. Most tripods come with built in bubbles for levelling, if manufacturers think they should be levelled then who am I to argue? It is difficult enough to get our eq mounts to track smoothly enough for long enough for long exposures, why not make it as fail safe as possible?

All Pier adaptors that I have seen have the ability to be levelled.

If anyone can convince me that they don't have to be levelled please feel free to do do........ :-)

  6. looking forward to seeing the finished pier/obsy Adrian . it would have looked nicer white mate, to go with the mount.

Sorry about the shameless plug, but Gonzo, he got it from me, I make them to order, either eq5/heq5 or eq6. drop me a pm if you are interested mate.

  7. I'm not going to be able to do any testing soon either!

Just heard back from my retailer. OVL say that the parts I need - primarily the top base board, (but for safety both the top and bottom boards) will take months to supply. Possibly three or even four.

    MONTHS !!

It's a Bank Holiday weekend so the next stage of talks will begin on Tuesday.

MONTHS????? That is shocking. I am surprised that a distributor, such as OVL, or any distributor of any device, is allowed to not carry spare parts. Or at least have a reasonable time scale to supply such parts.

We all know that SW scopes a pretty good for the money we pay but I have read a good few posts over the years talking about problems in getting spare parts. They (SW & OVL) should realise that these things get used, are gonna break down for various reasons and folks are going to require parts.

Anyway, rant over, hope you gets the parts MUCH sooner than that.

  8. Its a bloomin mine field!! lol.

Mine is as it was out of the box. It tracks 'fairly' well, but could be better. It keeps objects in a 25mm ep for ages. It keeps Jupiter on the camera chip for a good few minutes at F10, I have recently bought a 4x Imagemate and yet to try that, so this might be the push I need to make it better.

Goto has been a problem a few times. I have found that the 1st stars selected by the hand set during alignment are not usually the best. I have found that stars reasonably low in the sky, & at a similar ALT, and at least 90 degrees apart in AZ are best. (This confirms Dr. Robins findings in another post).

I think a 3 star alignment routine would be much more accurate, hopefully SW will include this in the next firmware update.

How are you going to replair your mount? Is the supplier (OVL) going to replace the warped board?

    Gary
