Should it not be the case that a decision to effectively pollute Earth’s orbit with thousands of pieces of junk, thereby threatening the enjoyment of space by a worldwide population, be made by a worldwide organization rather than made by an organization in one particular country?....
I couldn't agree with you more. Respect.

I thought we'd already achieved the oceans being full of junk? Hopefully, the Kessler effect will kick in and all that junk up there burns up. It'll serve them right for allowing such madness. I wasn't aware of this, thanks for raising it.
I am so happy you are now aware my friend. Please considering signing the petition that i have posted on my article, found here:
or on my profile feed.

I'd just like to thank @Zermelo for bringing this https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanocallaghan/2020/07/31/amazon-is-going-to-add-3000-more-satellites-into-earths-orbit--and-people-are-not-happy/ travesty to my attention. Thank you.

Can everyone please sign this! It would be much appreciated, however little you think it will help.

WHAT? Excuse me? I have only recently found out about this, and i cannot believe it. To quote Stargazerslounge member Baldyman "I wonder what we will fill up with junk first. The oceans or the atmosphere?"
How dare anyone be given permission to do this? Is there something i can sign to try and stop it? I don't know who i am more furious at, Amazon or the FCC. I know this was announced a while back, but i am still making this article regardless. Please let me know what i can possibly do to try and stop it.
My sorrow cannot be expressed fully. If polluting our own planet wasn't enough... ugh. I know you probably have all heard it before, but i felt i must put something. Thank you for your time.

A stunning target and one of my favourites. A perfectly small blue sphere. To me it is one of the bluest objects up there.
Cons and pros I guess. I have a refractor on its way and really look forward to looking at its contrasty defreactonless views! Hopefully the best of both words, a nice frac and decent size reflector!
👍
I'm doing the exact same thing, but vice versa! I'm hopefully going to get a reflector soon (despite this)
so it will indeed be interesting comparing he views.

This looks cool, but damn is it overpriced. There may be remote controls, but i am not aware of any for your particular scopes. However, i am new, so take what i say with a pinch of salt.

I often see this nebula as grey & subtle green. Though my 12" dob. Also quite a large amount of detail.
Never seen blue though. For me the blue snowball nebula is exactly as it says on the tin. A tiny blue coloured ball. That's about the only target I have seen blue. Apart for Neptune of course.
👍
Yeah this is the thing, isn't it, that you can probably see colour through a large aperture, but not from a refractor. By the by, where is the snowball nebula located, pray? I'm new.

you can when you run out of room for it all 😉
Yeah, that seems to happen sooner than you think. I think my household is singlehandedly keeping Amazon running😆

I see blue/green tinge saw it better in the 8" I had but I do see it in my 5" Refractor but not as distinct.
Ah so that would explain why i haven't seen it.

I've read that some have said the Orion Nebula has a greenish tinge. To me it's always been off-white.
That is apart from one night with my 10 inch Dob when I saw a distinct bluish tinge.
Has anyone seen any blue?
I'm afraid i haven't my friend. Wish i had!

Hi everyone! I would just quickly like to ask people for any suggestions for targets to observe, as i would really like to know your faves are. Also, i'd like to ask, what's all this 'reputation' stuff about. Apparently at the moment i'm a Nebula.

A travesty! My disappointment cannot be expressed in words, especially as i wanted to purchase an 8" Dob.

Ah welcome! I'm very new too, but i can most certainly say that the community is really nice and incredibly informative. Happy stargazing!

I'm an utter newbie. I find the orion nebula with ease. If you look at Orion's belt currently in winter it is south facing and tilts diagonally down to the left. There are 3 small stars just below it which make up "the sword". The centre of these 3 stars is the nebula and once you put any kind of scope on you should see it.
It took me a few seconds because you need your eyes to adjust but then it just pops out, a big grey smudge all around and you can usually see 2 or 3 stars in it actually. My 9yr old daughter insists she can see it in a pinky purple colour. I didn't believe her but she hasn't googled anything and apparently it's true that young kids can see it in colour
Really? That's incredible! I wonder how young you have to be?

Wow mate that sounds really cool! Thank you for giving me a target for tonight!

Alright, back to the title subject.
It depends on your observing conditions. Can you just walk out your backdoor and start observing or do you need to haul it up or down many stairs? Does it need to fit in a car, a backpack, or on public transit?
There's not much in stock anywhere, but the top contenders tend to be various 6" or 8" Dobs, the 130 or 150 SW Heritage scopes, or the 130P and 130P-DS scopes on various mounts.
Luckily, I can very easily just walk out my door and observe

Oh, i can see what you guys were thinking, but this was while i wasn't actually looking AT the belt, more around it. Besides, as i said, i was considering it anyway.:-)
Ideas for projects
in Getting Started With Observing
Posted
Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well! I just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas for projects to do, as the sky is clearing up and i wanted to make the most of it. Anything, maybe finding or tracking a certain celestial object or mapping the moon! I'll leave it up to you!😊
