That's fantastic, Lee.  What a location! I do love all the crazy ancient stoney things in Cornwall!

Thank you Paul, that is very kind of you indeed.

As I don't drive and unable to visit further afield I try to find places in the village that provide some interest and this site is a long stones throw away.

I will keep scouting around for interesting parts to the village for inspiration, though sometimes on work nights it's hard to go to areas so I stick to my 2 favourite locations for northerly or southerly views.

Really hoping to be more adventurous on work evenings.

  2. I'm utterly speechless Paul. But I will prattle on a few words. Mesmerising, beautiful, serene, grounding, butterflies in the stomach, amazement, just some words to describe that Aurora display of Friday 10th May 2024.

You have magnificently captured it with such mastery and expertise. I just don't know how you managed to treats such a coherent journal. I know I was dumbfounded and gasping lost for words witnessing what I was seeing here in North Cornwall.

It seemed a night that many people came together to witness a truly magical event in the sky, I too had people close by all in the fields and around and hearing their voices filled with wonder is something I'm not used to be a line Astrophotograper but brought us as one and hopefully many more have now caught the Astronomy /Astrophotography bug.

I want to say thank you, your art of capturing the images is second to none and I am continuing to learn so much from you.

Ps if you ever decide to print the 3rd image of the complete Auroa arc with the dish I'd absolutely love to own a copy by the master.

Clear skies and onto maybe more Aurora and hopefully this year Noctilucents.

You really have the hang of this lark now Lee. 😁 Fantastic 👍

Haha. I'm pleased you think so 😊. Thank you so much. I've got to say I  really love this Widefield imaging. Less stressful than the deep sky I was doing (I still miss it in a sadistic way) and easier to just pick up my kit and go out and about. I admire all  the dso imagers for your commitment and perseverance. Even if there are clouds about they will always make an interesting timelapse. Though obviously I still prefer no clouds.

Since learning how to mask foregrounds properly I've really enjoyed it and of course just being out under the stars listening to the wildlife and the calming nature of peacefulness.

  4. This is a still single frame image of the Aurora display on Friday 10th May 2024 from Delabole, North Cornwall. There was over 1000 images to look through and I could post a lot of them but this is my favourite especially with the moon setting on the horizon. Taken with Canon 600D and Samyang 14mm f2.8 1600iso 8 secs.

Processed in Photoshop. No saturation added!

It picked up again later, about 3ish we had another incredible display. What a night, wasn’t it. Great video Lee, really shows off the display well. Did you capture this on your 600D?

I heard a lot still capturing around 3am too. It didn't really stop all night did it. I'm pleased you got it 😁. Yes I was taken with my Canon 600D and Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens.

Fantastic. The setting Moon helps me place this in time, love the way it turns into a crescent through the cloud as it reaches the horizon.

Thank you, I agree, getting the moon in shot was a bonus too.

  7. The major part of the Aurora storm timelapse last night at 11.23pm with a setting moon in the bottom left.
Such a mind blowing breathtaking event to actually see naked eye visibility, maybe once in a lifetime experience here in Delabole, North Cornwall of this magnitude who knows? Sitting watching the display watching in amazement and listening to people in the fields watching and witnessing this was surreal.
It was still going on albeit faintly when I left at  1.45am.
It is a pity I didn't have a wide enough lens but 14mm on a Canon 600D was the best I had. The Aurora was going from west to east, which is a huge area to cover.
I will be working on some still images to come.
I hope everyone who captured and saw the Auroa enjoyed it and marveled in the wonder of what was happening 😊.

Hello all, I am trying to sort out a portable setup using the az gti and asiair.  The az gti is alt az and eq mode updated. I can access both modes using either the handset or the phone app, but I can't find a method of connecting to the mount with the asiair and use alt az mode. Am I missing something or is it not possible?

I link between mount and asiair with an eqmod cable and I have tried selecting both eqmod mount and az mount in the asiair software, both drive the mount but it seems to be expecting the mount to be on the wedge. Any pointers would be most welcome, I am up to page 30 in the thread and havent spotted anything. Ta much.

I don't think it's possible to run the AzGti and air as Elp says.

There's a thread of the zwo forum here.

    https://bbs.zwoastro.com/d/12294-az-gti-in-altaz-mode/48

It's probably easier to get a wedge or as Elp said use sky safari or stellarium to control your mount without the air. I can use both stellarium and sky safari pro for controling my AzGti in alt az for visual. I woukd think this would work for short exposure imaging too.

You've made a lovely job of that Lee, well done.

Lateral thinking at its best  :)  I saw your other version but this one concentrates on the mist.

    Lovely Pic lee,

I'm not  that Fram from you ( Dorset)  and wish my skies were like that.

    Very nice work.

    Pat

Thank you both, so very much. 😊 It was to good an opportunity to miss getting this shot in, I just love how the quarry just hoovers up the mist (it rarely does that as the village is generally full of mist when it comes in here) . I'd been up most of the night with the dslr and milky-way and no work the next day so thought I'll go on a bit longer.

I am yet to process the landscape milky-way image and going to use another one of the mist filled quarry images for the foreground

The skies aren't always like this, it's been a long time coming with clear skies, no moon and no work night.

You can just make out the teapot asterim and Scorpius, with the fading milky-way. Taken on 4th May 2024 at 4.15am. Taken with Canon 600D and Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens, 1600iso 1/60. 2 images stitched together in Microsoft ICE and processed in Photoshop cs4.
