  1. I've done a few post here without realising I haven't introduced myself. Sorry about that :)

    Anyway, I'm Nick.

I took my first steps in astronomy and astro-clubs when I was around 13y old. Did it for around 3 years but in fact, my friend and I were more goofing around than doing anything serious hehe.

Kinda lost my interest for 25 years but 2 years ago I picked the hobby up again when I bought my house. My plan was to have one telescope (bought a third hand LX90 8") but after two years yeah well.... Kinda got excited a bit and slowly building up my collection and learning bit by bit.

    Cheers from Belgium.

  2. Now that my GP-DX finally has been upgraded with GoTo, I was taking a good look at my polar scope (I never did until yesterday 🙄)

I noticed batteries so I took it apart. Well, I know now what the little white wheel is for...:)

One started leaking so I cleaned the contacts with vinegar but then I noticed a part of the wheel is broken off (probably the dial). This regulates the LED I presume so now there is no way in using it.

Is it even possible to replace this part/piece?

I like to keep things fully operational, even when I don't use them.

Other option is to put a polar scope in from the EQ5. I read that works too.

  3. Sorry for not responding earlier. I didn't get a notification....

Yeah Robin can be a d**k sometimes :) He's Dutch you know...

I went to a hardware store and they couldn't help me. They didn't even bother to measure it. Going to try another shop this week but I don't think they even have these kind of screws.

Found some for the Meade 8x50 but I don't know if that would work. They look the same though.

And yeah...the moment it sled out of the mount....I was devastated but I have good hopes if I could ever collimate it again with this damn weather.

I think this is one of our biggest fears!

  4. Two weeks ago,my C5 OTA struck the ground (I know,the horror!!!!).

All seems fine but I need to do a star test when the weather will allow me to....maybe in 2 months or so :)

Anyway...One of the plastic/nylon thumbscrews of the viewfinder also broke.

This afternoon I went to a hardware store but they can't help me because they only got metric stuff.

Does anyone know which size these are. I tried one of my Skywatcher 6x30 screws but they are too big.

My C5 is the black ota with orange letters and the original viewfinder.

  5. I really don't see any tampering with it at first sight. Probably would have to disassemble a leg to check it. Or it is a rare unknown model :)

I don't know about the newton... . It came with an 100ED but this might be not the OTA that was used with this tripod.

No plans for now except not selling it except when someone REALLY needs one. I bought an original Vixen AL90 to mount my DX on.
