Hi, Just wondering whether collimation is necessary on a smaller Telescope like mine (https://www.astroshop.eu/telescopes/skywatcher-telescope-n-76-700-astrolux-az-1/p,5010#tab_bar_1_select)? If so, how often do you need to do it, and how do you know when it needs doing? Any other tips on how to do it are welcome.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the pro's and con's of the different types of mounts out there? Do Dobsonian mounts have issues on non-flat surfaces (like a garden) or can Equatorial mounts ever have issues getting out of line too easily?

I lived in Frimley as well for many years! If I get a chance in the future, will have to check out the local clubs, though being a busy Dad I only find the odd evening that I can get out there (weather also permitting).

Managed to get this Telescope as my first (second-hand for £40, hardly used). Just wondering best objects to aim to see (I got a cheap moon filter which is all I have really had a chance to spot in the night sky so far). Hoping as the hobby goes to invest in a more expensive one (any thoughts on next step up also welcome). I have only had a few goes with it so far and found the Azimuth mount to be easy to use, but there is a metal rod which you can turn to slightly alter (don't think this is moving across the equatorial) however you can only turn it so far before the thread at the top falls out (is that normal?). Hi, I am from Mytchett, Surrey (UK) and just getting into star-gazing and astronomy. Just purchased my first (albeit) second-hand telescope, which is a Sky-Watcher SK 767AZ1 reflecting telescope (seemed like a good beginner scope to use, though can't find much in English online about it, other than the user manual). Hoping to get a clear sky tomorrow night, to give it a trial run! Looking forward to getting to know you all and getting all your sage advice!
