Anyway, doing this, and then processing as usual I ended up with this:
That looks lovely 😍 Good luck with applying the techniques mentioned in the posts above, to extract the outer nebula and look forward to seeing final result.

Thanks. I use an OSC camera (ASI533mc pro)

Fantastic detail for just 1 hours worth of capture @Roy Foreman

I know little of it currently and would need to purchase the necessary equipment, and I wondered just what equipment I would need…and if what Ive got is suitable?
An ADC (atmospheric dispersion corrector) filter would be useful for planetary. An IR/UV cut filter too, if you havent already got it.

Here is the 90mm ready to go planetary...
Sorry for side tracking this topic....
Hi Simon, Thats an interesting setup which seems to be hanging onto your roof 🙂 How is it mounted please? Any images of the base would help.

On the other end of the ethernetcable you can run anything with KStars. You don't need the drivers on this device, just the KStars/Ekos suite and the basic free and open-source indi framework.
Good point. I was making the assumption that OP would like to run everything off the RPi and was trying to highlight that the Astroberry repo doesnt have the newer versions of Kstars.

Hello can anyone reccomend a rasberry pi suitable for a remote set up.
Others have given details above, so just adding to it. If you do decide on going down the RPi route, try out Kstars/Ekos and see if you like it. Great piece of software but like all good s/w there is a learning curve. Also Astroberry seems to be a dead duck at the moment, so suggest you try out either Stellarmate or AstroArch instead.

I think if I can put aside time to master the process, my results would definately improve.
Luckily for us most of the default settings in Siril will get good results. Its only in the infrequent cases that we need to understand the options available to help get around it.

Also can you explain 2 pass, I am not sure I follow?
This might help https://siril.readthedocs.io/en/latest/preprocessing/registration.html

he top photo looks like very similar to one I took last year using a ZWO L-Enhance filter
Indeed, they look quite similar. I wish I had all the filters to do a comprehensive comparison 😉
Thankfully S@N mag did one recently https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/multi-band-filters-astrophotography/

Are you sure you have those the right way around as I would have expected the teal colour from the tri-band and the green from the duel band.
I did check and I have it the right way around. It wasnt meant to be a which filter is better OR the most suited for a particular target type of comparison. Its just what I had in my possession at the time comparison 🙂

I think i need a photo as I am a little confused as to what you are trying to describe.
Dont have the filter with me now as it was borrowed for the weekend. Will try again at another time and post pictures

BTW, I did a quick comparison of the Antlia Triband vs ZWO Dual band and posted here

It should go on. Do you mean that the thread locks up before its fully engaged?
It was spinning around but when I attached stop ring it grabbed it.

Does it thread onto the badder coma corrector, seem to remember that mine had a thread on the scope side of it.
I did try that with a borrowed filter. There is a thread but for some strange reason I couldnt attach the filter without adding the stop ring which meant that the whole assembly did not fit into the focuser tube.

Hi all,
I had a chance to do a quick comparison between these two filters and thought I would share it here.
Both sets of images (30 x 60s) taken on the same night with setup of SW130pds + ASI533MC Pro with gain 240, offset 70 and -5deg. Stacked + Background extraction done in Siril followed by Autostretch.
With Antlia Triband https://www.firstlightoptics.com/antlia-filters/antlia-triband-rgb-ultra-filter.html
With ZWO dual band https://www.firstlightoptics.com/narrowband/zwo-2-duo-band-dual-narrowband-filter.html

Yes was going to day the same thing you simply don't need a two inch. Filter for that camera and it comes with an adaptor for a 1.25 inch in the camera box.
Resurrecting this thread, as I would like to get the Antlia Triband filter which unfortunately comes only in 2" form. Is there a way to connect this to the ASI533MC pro without using a filter drawer? I also use the Baader CC so need to bear that in mind.

Is it possible to run a DBE or ABE on your resulting calibrated frame?
I dont use PI but did apply background extraction in Siril and no artefacts 😞

My question is, why is this region so populated with galaxies?
Wonderful mosaic.
My understanding is that this is part of the Virgo supercluster and the original thinking that galaxies would be evenly distributed across the universe is not correct - they tend to clump.- 1

and am having an issue with a strange artifact/gradient when using the scope.
I have taken your attached FITS files and done a quick pixel math using SIRIL (lights/flats) and I cant see any artefact of the kind you are seeing. So maybe something not quite correctly configured in the software that you are using for calibrating and stacking.
This is your flat
This is your lights
And here is the Lights/Flats

I appreciate I've over-processed the image and that's part of my issue - to tease out the nebula without over-processing
In your image there is a gradient, hence why some parts are looking bluer than others. I use Siril in which you can remove gradients as the first step and then you can slowly stretch the image to bring out the nebula. It also integrates with Starnet so you can stretch stars and nebula independently. I am sure Affinity photo also allows most of these.

I've tried running Starnet on it to try processing separately...but it see's the Ring as a star and removes it !
Have you tried stretching the image a little bit so M57 is clearer and doesnt get confused as a star? If you are more interested in M57 rather than the full fov try cropping before you apply Starnet. M57 shows up as a small circle in my FOV so I crop heavily before processing. Here is one I took a few weeks ago (around 30mins worth). Processed in Siril no starnet.
Steps:
- Background extraction
- Crop (you could do background extraction after the crop too)
- Asinh stretch to bring out colour
- GHS stretches to gently tease out details.
- Noise reduction
- Remove green noise (if needed)
- Improve saturation (if needed)
Good luck!

Along with our cheepo UHC filter, this was doable probably because the moon was low toward Sagittarius. Unfortunately it flares bright stars toward the edges. I'm told I need to get the filter in front of the sensor, rather than on the telescope side of the cc. It's never straightforward...
Not keen on the current processing trends; IMO, stars make the image.
Thats a lovely image. What is your process flow in Siril?

I was finding the Ekos focus was very erratic, simply running it over and over gave me different results every time. I also found that it rarely met the focus that the Bahtinov showed so it's more reliable
Its worth posting your settings on the INDI forum so others maybe able to help you. The Focus module has been improved considerably in the last few months so it will be good feedback to the author(s).

Hi, for focus I use Kstars/Ekos. The autofocus with Bahtinov Mask is a bit hit and miss so I tend to do that myself
I love the way you have got the mask to be placed and removed. 👍
Are you finding that the Ekos focus module is NOT giving you the right focus without Bahtinov?

In most markets it is cheaper to buy a used telescope than to buy parts to make your own.
Beware of reviews written by people (e.g. shoppers on Amazon) who know little about telescopes.
Very good points 👍

Hi, thats odd indeed. Generally you end up getting more red than you want. Perhaps if you explain the process you are following to integrate the Ha that would help us understand better. It almost looks as if the Ha is getting mapped to wrong colour during the integration. Posting your unprocessed images would help too.
