  1. Hi,

Getting a new scope after having several largish dobs in the past as I'm looking for something more portable that won't break my back !

Would a 250P on a EQ5 delux mount work? or is it too heavy for that mount, if it would work would a GOTO also work later on?

Thanks in advance for any advice\thoughts

Welcome - I'd recommend that you join a local astro group, there are loads to choose from in Cheshire, I attend one at Delamere.

I agree with Steve, the current close proximity of Sirius is a relatively short event. Here's a graphic showing how proper motion of stars change their distance to us over tens of thousands of years (and not millions!)

Before the red giant phase, Sirius B was a bright B type star. 240 million years ago the Sirius system wasn't even born yet. B stars have a very short life span.

thats a great article its amazing weve lasted so long

  4. Come across DSCs which is all new to me and like the idea of making my dob into a push to setup.

Would the below kit work by simply replacing the central bolt on the base with the rotary encoder? How would you callibrate/set this up?

Any suggestions on how to deal with measuring the altitude of the dob?

thanks in advance for any replies / advice

  5. Yesterday read up a lot on canon eos cameras as im slowky getting into imaging the planets and captured mars 2 nights ago and ended up ordering  a used 550D (have a 350D at the moment) and installed backyard eos on the laptop so looking forwards to being able to live view and focus and capture video then process

This made me read up on whats in the sky at the moment then i gave my lenses a good clean as well as the scope

Nothing exciting i guess but i do enjoy this side if the hobby which is reading up on things, research and reading what others are upto and achieving
