  1. Just reading that Telescopius website. Very useful. It shows the ring was mag 8.8 and the dumbbell 7.4. Sounds about right. Except for it says M13 is only 5.8 and it stood out the most to me. What to go for next time? More globs? Any more nebulae or even galaxies? I don’t think I’m going to do the veil for a bit as there isn’t much point by the sounds of it until I have an oiii filter. I need to get a longer extension tube first so i can use my larger eyepieces.
  2. Found it. Also a chart saying it’s a UHC w/red. Not sure what the W/red is about. How does this compare to say the Astronomik UHC filter?
  3. Hi, The person I bought my original scope off gave me this in 1.25”. Is it a uhc, oiii or what? What is it good for?
  4. Yep just found the ring nebula! It was more distinct than the dumbbell nebula to me. At the moment I am stuck on high power. Need that longer focus tube for my two inch eyepieces. Will have a look for the veil nebula another night. Thanks. I have a UHC filter but it’s 2”. Will have to get more.
  5. just found M27 dumbbell nebula as well but it was very faint. Nothing like Orions nebula. Bortle class 6. Is it normally difficult with this amount of light pollution?
  6. Well well well, in my 12” dob M13 was “Wow” better. Really surprised. Now to look for the ring nebula and others
  7. Have you got a link to a dew gun please?
  8. What do you dry them with, just heat? Like a hairdryer?
  9. I sometimes find towards the end of my sessions dew building up on the eyepiece and giving like a tunnel vision. What do you use to dry them?
  10. That’s amazing that. What magnification was that at?
  11. Can anybody tell me which crater this is by the way please?
  12. I was struggling to make out the craters with less power but they probably will have been clearer. Will try again next time.
  13. So I found these tonight. Rough area of the landing site and the Moltke crater. I have seen some with clearer images taken through an iPhone but that was someone with an 11” Celestron SCT. This is with a 12” F 5.3 dob and Myriad XWA 3.5mm eyepiece. Can I get much clearer with my scope?
  14. Ignore my questions are now answered. Thanks. Think I’m happy with the view through the Telrad and finder scope matching.
  15. Yes sorry I meant finder. I’ll have to work out if I prefer the main finder and Telrad matching or the main finder and the view through the focuser. Just had a play about tonight and I quite like the Telrad and the finder scope matching.
  16. Right just tested it out. So the view through the straight through seems to match the view through the focuser. The Telrad is inverted. Doesn’t seem like any point getting a RACI if it will invert that view but I understand it will match the Telrad. Not sure what’s better.
  17. So if I get a RACI Finder will it be the same way up as the Telrad? And the Dob will still be inverted? Confused sorry for all the Q’s. Not sure if the straight through matches the Dob focuser.
  18. Is a Telrad the right way up? When used with a typical dob?
  19. Hi all. I’ve just realised I was looking through my Telrad the wrong way. No wonder I couldn’t get on with it 😂 I also realise now I ca adjust the position of the crosshair and suddenly it all makes sense. Only problem is I sold it with my old scope that is being picked up on Saturday 😂 nevermind. Just another couple of questions. I’m hearing a lot about a RACI Finder but what does it stand for? It seems some are illuminated and some are not but they are all right angled. The Telrad isn’t right angled so it sounds easier to just it with my straight through finder? Just wondering what people do.
  20. Don’t know about the focal plane. Do you not use a Telrad or just that right angled focuser John?
  21. This is my focuser fully extended. As you can see they do a longer one. Just emailed John about upgrading mine.
  22. Just spoke to John at OO. He said try moving the mirror forward or something but it confused me. (I’m not that good at adjusting the mirrors yet but will get used to it). He said he thinks it’s a faulty eyepiece but I’m going to buy a 2” focuser extension off him anyway. I had to not fully insert the eyepiece for it to focus, but like just on the edge barely holding it in.
