  1. I can't really use a Dob' mount. Although I do admire the concept and ingenuity of making a mount out of a banana crate.
  2. It's scary ... I haven't even calculated the filters ...
  3. I use an AZ5, present price £265. The Orion ST80 was about a hundred quid, £270 including the GSO focuser. The 2" SuperView around 60 quid (I'm sure I paid more). The diagonal about £100. The other eyepieces must total £150 at least.
  4. Thanks again. You can tell I'm not an engineer. I usually feel proud of myself if I can put the OTA in the dovetail properly when I'm setting up lol.
  5. Brilliant! I always wondered how to figure out the pitch of a thread. You are now officially my hero.
  6. It's amazing how the money adds up. This is my 'cheap' 80mm short tube achromat set-up. Throw in a mount and a tripod and even this lot must be pushing a grand.
  7. I have mobility issues, so I get out with what I can. TBH I can spend hours outside with an ST80 and a couple of GSO EP's.
  8. I probably wouldn't be sorry. Although the 17.5 might end up sitting on a shelf for long periods of time along with my 10mm Delos and others.
  9. I'm pretty sure Baader (Ohi) Eudiascopics are supplied with winged eyecups. Not sure where mine went lol.
  10. I'm tempted by the 17.5mm now ... counts pennies ...
  11. I originally bought it to replace my heavy 19mm Luminos. It has a tight eye relief though. Regardless of what ES claim.
  12. I think the shortest focal length 2" I have is an 18mm ES.
  13. I don't know which focal length is considered the best of the range. When I bought my 14mm the 17.5mm Morpheus was still a rumour.
  14. The 30mm NPL is my favourite 30mm (or thereabouts) Plossl. It just feels right ergonomically compared to my other 32mm Plossls (including the 32mm TV Plossl). I'm not sure of the 8mm's actual eye relief distance. I can tell you it is identical to the 8mm SvBony though. As far as I can tell the NPL and SvB 8mm are practically identical.
  15. The larger reflector will have greater resolution. My guess is that refraction is more efficient and there is no obstruction. So better contrast and acuity.
  16. My Chinese 4" ED refractor has Japanese FPL-53 glass. Although much of that glass is actually made in China now.
  17. Thanks Reggie. I think I've used mine with my Mak's. They are remarkably sharp with excellent colour separation. I compared them to ortho's and Plossls and they easily hold their own. Things are pretty cool at my end. I've had some great August sessions. In fact I've had over a hundred sessions before September. Clear skies!
  18. What is it with Baader's obsession with eyeguard wings?
