Opticstar manual filter wheel. Wasn’t expecting much at the price but thought it would do for now. Surprisingly nice bit of kit though. Well made and moves smoothly and easily and clicks positively into each position. Great value.

However the one bit I didn’t care for was the eyepiece holder. One of those types with a single screw. Had  a TS one with compression ring though that screwed right on.

Now will do me for a while.  ?

Oh yes will need something to fill it with.  ?  Will just have to see what the postman brings.  ?

I have the exact same one. Does it's job perfectly.

You look away from a thread for a few days and the world of SGL goes mad.
That poor postal service has been rather busy in June so far.
Has it been cloudy or something?

Postie hasn't been to see me. I'm still waiting?

  3. From past experience, from my younger car modifying days (think Nissan Skyline) I realised that GRP bumpers and body panels were of constant rubbish quality as no matter how good the original mould is, the fibreglass never retains its intended shape. Close, but never exact. I'd steer clear of fibreglass domes all day long. As bad as I am as a wood worker, id give a timber obsy a go if I could.

  4. I've just got a Synscan Wifi adapter. Setting up last night was a breeze. Soooo much easier to use than the handset. No more walking around with the mount as it slews so the cable doesn't wrap around! Also purchased Sky Safari Pro on my Galaxy S7 and it worked seamlessly. Cracking little gadget.

  5. You might be better off using Carte du Ciel as it works better. I have tried and failed to get StellariumScope working, mainly getting it to sync to the telescopes true pointing position. With CdC, I can either press sync or PlateSolve in APT and hit sync and it just works. I still use Stellarium *separately* to see what's available at the time.

  6. I keep getting told that! I have an older blue 200P with the steel plate covering the bottom. I have drilled small holes in the plate to allow access to the locking screws and grub screws for collimation and covered the seams with black tape.

But I take your point about light leak. Might need to look closely at the focuser as it doesn't hug the OTA, it sits flat. And I haven't covered the camera view finder either!

    Hello Mickey

I have an ASI174MM cool, I was unable to remove the Amp Glow, I discovered that covering the sensor with the supplied plastic cap, and then, covering the sensor end of the camera up to the vent fins with four layers of Aluminium kitchen foil, held in place with an elastic band. The amp glow calibrates out with the darks produced.

Interesting. Would it be worthwhile, if taking darks still attached to the telescope, to cover the scope cap with foil?

  8. I bought a 600D off Juan with the Baader filter purely because I use the camera also during the daytime when out with the kids. Works great under daylight, not so great under artificial (nighttime) light as you start to get the red hue in your images. Also, works great on the telescope. Juan himself advised me, if it's only to be used for Astrophotography then the Baader filter is not worth the extra expense, in his opinion. ?

  9. Got my modded Canon 600D on Thursday and couldnt wait to have a go. First ever AP picture. 6 30s shots and 5 darks stacked. Processed on Startools demo version so cant save. Had to screenshot so low quality pic attached. Not too bad I dont thing since the pictures were took about 5 metres from a streetlight. Was surprised how much the software can clean it up. RAW picture from the camera and then cleaned up.
