Brisdob

I was doing a google search on H.W. English and came across a very old post of yours re H.W. English in Hutton.  I remember them well, run by 2 brothers.  I grew up in West Herndon and regularly used to cycle to their shop in Hutton, an Aladdin's Palace when I was building my 6 inch Newtonian.  I remember buying an ex-army Erfle and worm driven gunsight that I modified to be the Az motion on my Alt-Az mount, one of those "Patrick Moore" Alt-Az mounts with the trunnions and threaded rod Alt adjustment.  I think I also bought an ex-military prism and got walloped for cutting a small hole in my curtains in a futile attempt to replicate the genius of Isaac Newton!  My (somewhat dim) recollection is that it was H.W. and (possibly) R.E. English.  Anyway, enough rambling.  These days I live in Brisbane, Australia with my 18 inch Obsession Telescope, but have very fond memories of H.W English. If you dismiss this message as the ramblings of a lunatic I wouldn't blame you one bit!
