im in same boat as you then :) i took some shots of orion with a dslr and old lens  and liked it so i bought a the gti. i've spent maybe a total of 12 hours under the stars with it so far and am so recent to nina i've not had clear enough skies to do more than 3ppa. at least it should all be ready to go if i ever see stars again.

haha superb. ye the skies down here in the borders have been rubbish as well. i bought the Gti and an evolux 62 ed at the same time and i do have some good pictures with them.

If you are plate solving you dont need to do the 2/3 star alignment. With every platesolve, the mount model will be updated to make it more accurate.

thank you for your comment. i appreciate any advice, i have only recently upgraded to a goto style of mount and found it all a bit daunting. folks like you help massively. thanks again

     i think this should work:

connect usb from pc to mount

run synscan app on pc and use it to connect to mount. you might have to change the setting in the synscan app on your pc to use usb/serial connection. check its connected by seeing if it slews via the the direction controls in the app on your pc.

run nina and tell nina to connect to the correct mount (telescope) in the drop down box

    that should be it.

    this video was pretty helpful:

sadly you'll need to watch it upside down as he sounds Australian ;)

yep that was one of the videos i had found, think i have cracked it. well ivgot it moving using Nina at least! thanks for your help. very much appreciated😀

Ask if any problems I might be able to help with the basics.

got everything dowloaded but it wont connect to the mount, ascom and skywatcher synscan app downloaded. just keeps saying unable to connect to synscan app driver

Don't even know how I would star align in Nina. I just use the atlas to find my target and press slew. The I just add that target as a legacy sequence, change iso and exposure time to my liking and hit play.

I would advise connecting everything up in daylight as there will be some niggles with drivers and setting up plate solving, but lots of YouTube's on that.

It's really pretty simple with help from here and YouTube :)

Thank you for that, im dowloading it now! even though im rubbish with tech. wish me luck😀

It's a free easy way to dip your toe.

I'm no expert by any means but even i could set up 3ppa and plate solving very easily

I have been looking, do you still have to do star alignment or does the plate solving take away that process?

Yeah lol I also got the snap cable and camera control was clunky.

I installed synscan on windows and run it to connect to my GTi via usb cable, the run Nina.

With plate solving working reliably, it's ace. Now I just need clear skies to actually do stuff

Id say asiair is better for cable management though a mini pc running Nina would also help compared to the rat's nest I have, using a laptop

i may give Nina a go in the short term. i will look into it later, thanks for the info. clear skies! eventually

possibly me too, so ill probably get zwo main and guide camera just in case.

nina seems pretty good for me so far though.

Ye not that keen on the synscan app, maybe its just me but i find it a bit stop start. also it plays up when im using the snap port for camera control.

Have you polar aligned any other mount successfully in the past or is this your first go with an EQ setup?

I ask because there are a few things that can go wrong in the PA especially if you are doing it by eye through the polar scope. I’m just making sure the basics are good rather than assuming that the PA is as you say ‘good’.

How, in detail, are you Polar Aligning the mount?

Hello sorry for late response, i have used an eq mount for a long time however yes i have always polar aligned by sight as in through the reticule, never had a synscan mount until this one and i see there is an alignment procedure using the app. I will learn better first and will let you know how i get on. Though weather may hold that up a bit!

When you rotate the axes manually is the stiffness uniform and are there any odd noises when you do this? Also are there are noises other than the expected mechanical ones when rotating them at full speed by using the Synscan app?

Sorry for the late reply, there are no strange noises when either manually or during motor operation, its maybe just me.

Could be so many things and you have not provided much information, most likely is your not well polar aligned. Can we at least see a sub frame?

Hi thanks for the reply. It is well polar aligned, i have it down to goto, as when i did point and track it tracked very well. It is maybe me, as im new to goto function. Thank you

  14. Can anyone help with a couple of issues i have with the star adventure GTi  i have come accross.
No1 issue is tracking, star trailing even at 30 seconds, polar alignment is spot on so not that, both axis seem to be pretty stiff when balancing. The tracking says sidereal and on. The scope i have attached is the evolux 62ed so not overloaded either.

the other issue is the redlight flashes at different rates and i cant find anything about that in manuals.
should say the mount is new as well only had it a week. Any advice/ help would be most grateful.

    Scott
