That’s the first scope I bought when I came back to astronomy a few years ago. It’s a very good scope for a beginner. It’s quite bulky and you don’t want to be carrying down stairs and you need somewhere to store it.

If only Stu. Total cloud cover here

Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. Do you already have a DSLR ? Perhaps taking some wide field shots of night scapes or star trails would be the best way to start. Your budget will cover a decent starter scope, but not astrophotography.

Could not see any activity in Ha today except for one small prom. Seeing was pretty poor and it clouded over before I could get my WL set up

I got it direct from the publishers Springer. Cost £65 so you are getting a good deal. Is it available in paper back? The publishers said it was printed to order and only hardback.

It certainly is Mike, but I am sure you will be well pleased when you receive the books.

Only very brief views here between the clouds, but well worth the effort

This is a really nice read, but it is not an observers guide to the Moon. Just a warning to anyone looking for that. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a general guide to Lunar folk lore and the history of lunar observing. At this price it’s an absolute steal.

The 150 Dob is a very nice scope and would suit you well for observing the planets and Moon. However it is not ideal for imaging as you have no tracking other than manual. It is possible to image the Moon because it is bright and requires short exposure times.

Very interesting John. I have just finished a biography of Gerard Kuiper and he did much of his best work with this very telescope.
