  1. A crescent moon is so hard to resist,so I opened the ROR at 2100 as it`s been a warm day, and went out just as it was getting dark at 2230 hopefully the 9.25sct had cooled down. After letting the Starsence do it`s alignment [I`m getting old] Straight over to the moon before I loose it behind the tree`s in the East.

Mare Crisium has got to be the target for tonight,a quick change over to the Badder zoom E.P,always a good choice for me,not bad 6 craters visible, Picard & Lick easy to see, Peirce with it`s crumbling walls was easy. Narrow Dorsum Termier visible also the more pronouced Dorsum Oppel, both like a black ribbon snaking along. Pity just as I was getting into my stride the moon sunk behind the trees.

Now it`s getting a bit darker what DSO can I see, first up a summer delight the [M57] ring nebula no need for any filters tonight a really bright outer ring slightly brighter on one side.

Straight over to M 13  the  great globular cluster, still a breathtaking sight and in the Morpheus 12.5mm [x202] I could just make out a dark lane running top to bottom, over to the smaller globular cluster [m92] which is a stunning object.

What a surprise!! The street light`s have gone off, have an hour early... as I can see the top of  Scorpius I wonder if M83 is visible I know it`s really low so what have i got to loose? The famous slew limit came up but I gave it a go the scope did it`s thing I held my breath....  and the obsy wall was in the way. still another rewarding night and that`s what make`s all rewarding.Des

  2. It`s  learning curve that most astronomers go through. Learning the sky is easy, the only downside is..IT`S BIG. Get a basic book with the northern hemisphere in it and northern constellation`s or one of the monthly magazines. Take one bright constellation learn your way around, look at the brightest star, whats name? Is there any double or multi stars as you look around get a little note book and jot down what you see, it all helps to learn and in the future you can look at your notes and you will be surprised how much you`ve learnt.
