  1. Thanks for the comments guys - yes it definitely needs more time. Just, as I said, it is the wrong time of year......but still open to a little every night that is clear. I will have to wait & see ......I just don't have the patience that Tom has ....🤣

  2. Not too sure if it is really worth posting this. It is really the wrong time of year to try capture data for it but I wanted to keep working with NB filters for as long as possible (before turning to galaxies). I was trying a few different targets during the night (when I had the chance)  - this one was 1st on the list each night. So far there is 5 hours each Ha & OIII with 1 hour each RGB just to help. I hope (but am not at all confident) to get more for this ..... but it may end up being put aside until September before finishing. There is not much structure to this old planetary nebula....but I am confident, that with more data, it could be well improved on.

Funny thing  - I'm off to Spain in March and was looking for a target somewhere in this neck of the woods. I think I'll need something further East by then though - my timing is a bit bad.

I think so.....as it is, this area is not available for very long past midnight.......but the nights have beeen so humid here where I am (Murcia by the coast), that sometimes I am just happy to pack up a bit earlier.

  4. NGC 2259 is actually the small open star cluster at the top margin of the image - just right of center. I have no info/names  for other parts of the image. Just found the area when looking around near the cone/fox fur regions......thought it would make an interesting area for an image. This is a total of about 13 hours Ha, OIII & SII. I have some RGB so maymake a different final image when I have the time.

  5. This is not - by a long shot - the best Horsehead & Flame that you have ever seen. But from my point of view, I am happy to have managed it in very "wet" conditions. (Relative humidity averaging about 90% when shooting this). At first I was concerned about Alnitak and its overall effect - taking over the image. But when I put the subs together, I realised....hey, it is a very bright star and as long as there are no very wierd artifacts I might as well just leave it. It was never meant to be a major project to produce a fantastic image and in that, like I said, I am happy enough with the result. (I will put it on my web site later today and those interested can get capture details there).

  6. Thanks for the comments Olly. I have been spoilt in not having to deal with Alnitak for some years - it now stands out like a sore thumb to me. It looks much worse (to me anyway) at the higher resolution on my screen.....and not something I am used to dealing with. With that in mind, your pointers & link are very welcome....I don't think more data will be an option anytime soon.  Thanks again 👍

  7. I'd be interested to know too, if anyone has ANY solution. The different brand filters leave one with different effects and the last time I shot this area I had a hard job calming down what my Astronomik filters left me with. Last night I was imaging with an Astrodon Ha filter but with very humid conditions - so more problems to be sorted....part screen shot to show what I mean.

Tonight I am imaging with RGB filters (still humid conditions) and it is no better 🙄.....worse even!

So - I must prepare for lots of time processing.....what fun 😏

  8. Last evening it was clear and I had no plan.....Last minute decision....go for the HorseHead. (It had to be Ha as I knew a bright moon would be up later).

I got a few hours in and just stacked the subs. I have not even got any calibration frames as yet - time enough doing them this evening. However - I just thought a crop from the stack looked interesting enough to post as a mono image......The Flame Nebula:

FWIW I think I prefer Port

I prefer that one also......and that is why I posted that one. My wife prefers the other.......what more can I say (apart from her being on the opposite side of the boat from me 🤣 )

  10. Here is one that is not imaged too often........I can understand why ......it was far from easy coming up with a final image and at that, did not get the colours that I was initially trying for. Settled for two completely different finishes (Port & Starboard 😆). One is shown here.....both, with all the details, can be seen on my website: http://www.kinchastro.com/sh2-232.html

-its just a bit psychedelic for my taste

I felt exactly the same about my image and ended up toning it down completely. Having said that, I don't actually mind the colours you ended up with.....at times it is really nice to look at things in a completely different perspective. 👍
