Nice one Nick, you wouldn't lose that one in the dark! It would be a bit like owning a Harley Davidson motorcycle though, too much polishing......

...or wood effect Fablon
'Wenge' finish, popular on loudspeakers, should do the job. It would blend in with the background at a dark site, just don't lose the scope in the dark.
Brilliant frac pictures from everyone as always, very nice.

Astronomy dealer on Wall Street sells them.....if out of stock try Mount Siani or Mont Blanc.
They are really good, if you put them high enough on the wall the wife does not notice the telescope clutter!

Good luck for tonight, Looks like a quality VA setup
First light report here - http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/252050-first-light-with-sw-esprit-100ed-mallincam-extreme/
That's the learning curve slightly less steep than it was....
Cheers,

Really nice setup you have there Damian, if I had that lot, waiting for first light would drive me nuts!
The mount looks particularly well engineered.

This topic is as good as any astronomy book, it just gets me wanting a scope upgrade even more every time I visit.
Really nice scopes here too many to mention but a big thank you to everyone who has shared their Frac with us.

I wish people would unexpetedly offer me nice scopes
Well I was very fortunate to be offered one as my first scope by Dave (F15rules) and here it is: -
That Bresser looks awfully tempting Dave.......Clear Skies,Fondofchips.- 2

Nice scopes you have there Roberto, I'm looking to upgrade mine, the Astro Physics scope would be on my list if my budget went that far.....you have set me off wanting one...must resist.
Really nice picture of the scope though (and the mount).
Any more fracs anyone? Come on don't be shy!

wow theres some cracking fracs on here im well out classed.
Not outclassed at all, your are in good company here.
So much better than a bin with a mirror in the bottom....
I'm going to remember this thread every time the Dob squad descend on a newbie asking which telescope to buy. Cannot argue with bang for your buck Dob value though.
Clear skies to all.

Truly brilliant and thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice job & doing the concreting the easy way. I was really surprised how solid a well mounted pier is after using a tripod, enjoy!

Thanks for the report John, I have been reading up as much as I can on eyepieces for a few weeks now & your reports and answers to questions on this forum have been very helpful.
Thanks also to other members who have contributed to the eyepiece section on SGL, seemingly tireless with your assistance.
I'm sure you will know what I mean when it gets to a point when studying different eyepiece specs etc you feel the need to reach for the Paracetemol............
Thanks again.

The good thing about the plastic outer pipe is less condensation than a metal pipe.
I've put 10mm of rubber between the bottom of my metal pier & the concrete base to help combat this problem, insulating the pier from the cold concrete base.
There isn't much difference between a concrete pier & a metal pier at the end of the day.
A broom handle is good for poking concrete & removing air bubbles.

Looks good, the Altair Astro adaptors are a bit on the expensive side, I have the EQ5 version & there is too much metal missing in the middle.
My solution was to get another adaptor made with a 10mm hole in the middle. Just a big washer really.
Good luck with your build and I hope you are soon in good health.
