The alt bolts on my CG5 were so poor that one got permanently bent. I replaced them with some stainless steel threaded rod and a couple of thumb nuts off eBay. Works perfectly, and was a lot less than £25.
That said, sending poorly designed products back might be the only way to make manufacturers realise that there is a problem.
Same here. Replaced with M 10 bolts. I think the idea is to set the ALT adjustment with no load. That is what i did in the end. Just locked it all up
@ 50 deg. Tracks ok . You have got to watch you don't strip the threads in the mount as well.

All I got this morning was 6 , 2ft bungee straps. No astro goodies.

If your spending that type of money , I would go with something like this.

That's a nice looking set-up. Congratulations.
On the negative side, the colour of the sideboard clashes with the scope. It'll have to go!
Just how understanding is your wife?
Is that the wife , or the scope , or both.

That is very clever what U have done there. Problem solved. /baader-40mm-super-sky-surfer
This what I have just bought. Same alignment problem. Bit more adjustment on this though.

Yeah but who wants a 12" scope when you can afford 14" one
James
Fare comment. £3.8k for an extra 2" is got to be a bargain. Nice to have loads of dosh. Should be able to see loads more with a 14" than a 12" scope. .

That is a lot dosh. £2.5k difference between the C11HD & the C14HD.

This seems a very good buy , compared to the cost of that lot.

There is play in the bearing. It should not be
like that. These come with a 2 year warranty.
It needs sorting out. Leave it alone. Get in
touch with who U bought it off of. Not a cheap
bit of kit, to muck around with.

I find I use mine more in the daytime, than at night.
They are great terrestrial binos. I go to Beachy Head &
do a bit of ship watching, in the channel. The focusing
is a bit of a pain. The moon is amazing, through these.

This is what I have done. The scope points East.
It cost less than £200 including decking. It is a
2X2 meter gazebo ,which I modified. All water
tight, & survived all the weather, we have just
had. just an idea.

running, out of the box. Built to a price,
like every thing else, now days.

Totally agree with PHIL 53, about seeing things with the
8x50 finder, that U cannot see with the eyes.
Be lost with out it.

I think I might be better off with something
like this. I no it is a lot dearer. You pay for
what you get.

Hi .What would be the cost of
something like this.
Steve.

Thanks for that.I bet it took a bit of
time to put all of that together.
Very good.

C8 would be even better than a 180 mm Mak - shorter and lighter
The f/l of the Mac 180, is 2700, which is nearly the
same as the C11. It means you don't need a
barlow for imaging.F15 against f10.Great for
planetry & lunar imaging.

Iv got the C11, & it is a bit of a lump to keep carting
about.I just do planetry & lunar.I wish I had gone for
this.http://www.firstlightoptics.com/maksutov/skywatcher-skymax-180-pro.html
I would get more use out of it.

Hi,iv gone totally over to mains supply for my scope.
The Due Heater really knocks the charge out of the
battery. When your out most of the night, the last thing
you want is a misted up scope.Mine is the C11,which
really seems to be a dew magnet.I have got the
Celestron 7amp Power Pack , which i use on the
4" refractor .Great, grab & go scope.

I order a lot of stuff from E Bay. The amount of stuff I have received that is damaged beyond use.
I end up taking a picture & showing the seller. It then has to go back. I have had no problems
with goods ordered from Amazon. Reluctant to order stuff off the Bay now. ?
