  1. thanks, i'll try that next clear night
  2. So ive followed the tutorials on youtube, or so I thought , and gave it a go on 99 images of the moon i took last night. This is the result. Whats happened here? I first loaded the raw images into Lightroom , adjusted a few things like exposure and then exported them all out as Tiff files. Loaded them into Autostackert, followed a moon stacking tutorial and ended up with this!
  3. ok first effort on what it turned out to be a very badly collimated f5 8" Stellalyra and a Fuji XT-2. Its poor but its still a lump of gas, 1500 light years away, which never fails to blow my head off. Cant wait for the next clear sky now ive tuned the scope properly.
  4. added the whole frame as a tiff for reference, no coma corrector last night but I did get one delivered today so will give that a go as well
  5. its an EQ5 non motored. I'll double check the cllimation tonight. It looks ok in daylight but i'll do it with the defocused stars as well.
  6. This was my first attempt at astro photography. I have a Stellalyra 8" f5 newtonian and have put my Fuji x-t2 on it and was trying for the Orion nebula last night. This was shot at 1/4 sec iso1600 and is one of an interval run of 200 images, the fuji was in electronic shutter mode to minimise shake. Is this wobble, collimation, bad focus, star trails, mirror pinching? I dont think i can focus it any sharper on the zoomed in fuji screen. Any thoughts on what is causing this arrow head look to the stars? This is a crop from a zoomed in frame. DSCF0556.tif
  7. Im trying to find a focus motor for the above but google is letting me down. Plenty for other 8" newts but i dont know if they would fit the StellaLyra. Has anyone any suggestions? thanks.
  8. So I have just got a new an 8" stellalyra Newtonian and just got wondered about the focusing. If I just drop an eyepiece into the focusser and tighten it up, the scope won't focus, I have the pull the eyepiece out 5 to 10mm in order to get focus on it. That doesn't seem normal to me. Is there a problem with the mirrors or focussed? The image is pin sharp once focussed but that just doesn't seem right as the focusser will always be maxed out to get focus. My eyepieces are svbony 23mm and 10mm with a celestron 2x Barlow. I'm trying to focus on something maybe 100m away as that's the only point of interest from my back garden!
  9. How noisy are tracking mounts? I'm looking to buy either a Sky-Watcher Skyliner 200P FlexTube GOTO (built in motor) or a StellaLyra 8" f/5 M-LRN on an EQ5 tracker. The thing is, looking at youtube videos the mounts seem quite noisy. I dont want to annoy the neighours in the small hours with a whining mount motor. Are they as loud as they appear or are there more silent options for an 8" scope?
