  1. I previously purchased the Samyang 135mm (Canon mount) and I used it once and it worked well...

Unfortunately however, due to a multitude of reasons, I need to move this lens along... it is effectively brand new, fully boxed and comes with the lens pouch/bag and also a 3d printed bhatinov mask which I made.

I'm hoping to get back what I paid out as I need to recoup this ideally do I'm looking for offers around the £350 mark... its currently around £440 on Amazon...

Please pm if interested. I will put it in the for sale section shortly but thought best to post here amongst the specific users.

  2. I know that the Photoshop apps for Android and Apple are limited paired down versions of the full software albeit Lightroom seems to be half decent, at least to my eyes.

So does anyone process their images on a tablet, and if so which one and what software works well.

I know the iPad is the market leader and a laptop can be had for less but the convenience of a tablet just fits my needs better.

Here's a step by step that will hopefully this will clear things up:

    1. Split your stars and background into two images
    2. Use Photoshop's File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack script to load the two images
    3. Once you hit OK in the script dialog you should have the two images loaded as individual layers
    4. Make sure the image of the stars is the layer above the background
    5. Change the stars layer blending mode to Screen

I've attached a few screenshots of what these look like.

    Brilliant, I will try this...

The basic idea is to create a starless image - which you have done using Starnet++. You then load the starless image and the original image as layers. Next you subtract the top image (which should be the starless image) from the bottom one . Now you have a stars only image. Finally, you load the starless image and the stars only image. You add the top image to the bottom one.

You can use Gimp for the above processes. Load the images as layers. After subtracting or adding, go to the images tab and click “merge visible layers” then export the merged image.

Images should be aligned for subtraction or addition. You may want to work separately on an image that is going to result in a starless nebula and also an image that is going to result in stars only. In this case, align at the stacking stage and make sure any crops are the same dimensions.

    Your M45 looks good btw!

This is all a bit complicated to take in... how do you subtract one image from another for example...

It's SO complicated a photoshop is not intuitive at all.

  5. I use Photoshop CS2 because I have it and I dont want to pay for the monthly CC versions.

I often see reference to processing an image without stars so I use Starnett++ to remove them. My question is, once I have processed the images (one with stars and one without) how do I merge/blend (or whatever you call it) back together.

Ive searched Google and watched tutorials but it just is not going in. I dont understand layers or how to work on them or set them up or anything really.

I NEED AN IDIOTS GUIDE. Can anyone help me in simple 1, 2, 3 like steps??

This is the best I can get with my processing skills. I just do not understand photoshop at all...

    Very nice!
    So many stars!!

    Thanks for sharing

    Bryan

Thank you... I was surprised bh the number of stars...

I was hoping to bring out more nebulosity in the main star field but I struggle at that point.

  7. The Plaides from Bortle 4 skies in Yorkshire.

I had a go at the file using PixInsight and came up with this.

You can just see Pickering's Triangle starting to show and there is a tiny bit of Ha in there. I did have to go OTT with the Curves to bring it out but with more data it should get better.

That looks very good to my eyes.

Thank you, I appreciate the effort.

I always think that part of the trouble with processing is that, until you get enough experience under your belt, you just don't know what can be achieved from any given image so you never know when to stop or if going any further will just do nothing, or worse take the image backwards.

Your veil result seems okay, shooting at f2.8 will capture a lot of stars. As people have said because the camera is standard you may struggle to capture the nebulosity of the veil. Try imaging something bright next time like Orion, Pleiades or Andromeda, you should get a decent result.

    Thank you.

It certainly captured a lot of stars!!! I was surprised just how many

The standard DSLR is fitted with a filter which blocks most of the Ha signal you're trying to capture on this target. You're getting some of the OIII signal through but the only real way to resolve it is a camera without the offending filter.

Your normal DSLR is okay for reflection or dark nebula regions and galaxies but with SY135 you'll get so much more with an astro modified or full spectrum camera and it will allow you to use a Duel-Band filter to highlight even more Ha & OIII signal.

Who said this hobby was cheap or easy? 🤣

    Agreed.

I'm on the lookout for an asi533 colour camera. Hopefully one will pop up in the for sale sectiob

  11. I once again call for help (like Gotham calling for Batman) with the processing of this image.

It is the veil nebula taken with my new Samyang 135 (first light with the lens) with my unmodded 1100d

    180s lights x 55

    30 flats

    60 Biases

Initial process in Siril attached as a Tiff.

    Veil 2.tif

    My processing is attached here:
