  1. Thank you all for the warm welcome.
  2. I just bought a pair and love them along with the beautiful walnut tripod. Everything about this setup is first class and exceptional quality. I can’t believe I actually own them. The views are beyond words and there is very little if any CA. I use the 14mm that comes with them. I also have an assortment of eyepieces ranging from 6mm to 25mm. the focusers are very tight to turn. Do any of you have tight focusers.
  3. Hello everyone, I’ve made a few posts but forgot to check in and say hi. I’m not a total newbie, I’ve been at it for about three years. Until a couple of months ago when I bought some decent equipment I had not done much with astronomy except use my 10x50 and 15x63 binoculars. I bought two telescopes on in the past but didn’t spend time learning how to use them. I got frustrated and sold them. I also once owned a 25x100 binocular. It was fun but I couldn’t look high in the sky so I sold it. Where I lived I had a nice view of the planets and enjoyed looking at them through them. A while ago I bought an Orion BT-82 binocular-telescope, and later a Sky Watcher 100 telescope because I got a good deal on it. I’ve been out there every night it’s clear since I bought these. I recently upgraded to an Oberwerk BT-100 and came to realize I like binoculars more than telescopes. It is so much easier for me to find objects with them. I am done buying/upgrading, I found my match. Eventually i might sell the SW100 if I don’t use it. I still have a good of the planets but have moved on to finding DSO’s and exploring the night sky by star hopping. I joined the Asheville Astronomy Club but haven’t met anyone because for the last year or so they haven't had star-meets because of the virus. I love these forums because there’s so much knowledge to gain from people that have been around much longer than me. I hope to become part of this community and learn from you guys.
  4. Last night was exceptional again, two nights in a row. The waxing crescent was brighter but I still had great views and the moon looked incredible 40 to about 70x with my Zoom through my Sky Watcher 109ED. I hope some of you had great viewing too.
  5. Hi, I’m waiting for my BT-100ED to come. I currently own Orions BT-82 without ED glass. Does anyone out own a pair of the the Oberwerk Bino/scope. If so please tell me how you like or dislike them as well ad what I should expect compared to my current Orion pair. I’m anxious to hear how the ED glass looks compared to Orions without Ed. thank you.
  6. I’ve been discouraged over the last few weeks. The clouds seem to roll in as soon as night fall comes. If not that there appear to be a thin layer of clouds covering the entire sky only letting the larger objects shine through. Last of all the moisture caused by the vegetation obscures the views. (That’s why the call this area the blue ridge mountains). Several nights the sky was sparkling clear so I set up my gear and ate dinner waiting for nightfall only to go out and find the sky covered with rain clouds. The mountains are so unpredictable. But last night was unbelievable. I set up like other failed attempts expecting nightfall to bring disappointment. Wow was I wrong. The crescent moon was simply beautiful. Although the current phase was bright making some objects near it hard to see, the sheer beauty of it made up for things obstructed by its light. Once the moon set and around 10pm andromeda dropped down where I could view it from my back deck. It was awesome in my BT-82 with medium magnification. Orion popped up past my roof and it was an incredible sight with my 10x50 binoculars as well as Pleiades. Normally in my area the constellations can be a challenge to find because you can’t see the stars that make them but last night I could clearly see the Pegasus and a few others. I think I got my observation fix for the moment. A night like last night makes us for the previous bad nights. I hope you all had a good experience too!
  7. I like binoculars more than telescopes. I have Orions BT-82 and a Sky Watcher 100ED. I just ordered the Oberwerk BT-100ED. I decided that telescopes are to difficult for me to aim and find things. So I’m going to sell the SW & the BT-82. I will lose a little magnification that the SW offers but gain a little magnification and light capturing that the BT-100 offers over the BT-82. For me it’s a trade off and I’ll sort of have the best of both worlds in one instrument. I like the elimination of CA the ED glass has and at this point, high magnification isn’t as important. The biggest problem, and I know it’s just me, is I struggle to aim the long tube of a telescope. With the binocular-telescope I find objects immediately whereas the telescope frustrates me with the tube length and narrow FOV. So in answer ti the OP’s question I am going fully Bino. In the end I will have 10x50 and a 15x63 binos in addition to my new Oberwerk 100ED binocular/telescope.
  8. Wow these are some serious mounts, I can only dream. Hopefully the AZ75 will be within my budget.
  9. I am looking for suggestions for an AZ mount for me SW 100ED. By budget is under $1000. Hope to stay $450 to $750 range. I currently have a SW AZ5 but it vibrates too much at high magnification. I posted on another forum, sorry if it is redundant. Two that have been suggested are the Sky-Tee 2 and the DSV3 I’d love to hear other suggestions, I don’t want to make the same mistake rushing into something like I did with the AZ 5 without asking for help. At the moment I’m leaning towards the American made DSV3 to support our local economy and not have to worry about shipping from overseas with the supply chain fiasco we are facing but I won’t rule anything out. The Sky-Tee looks similar at a lower price but again, supply chain worries. Thanks in advance for any help you might give.
