    Yes, this is the biggest issue for us when we are observing.  Especially as we have older eyes which take a little longer to adjust

    Thanks so much for all the replies @carastro Yes we did have a word with them but it’s health and safety.  I guess I am lucky compared to some. @Lee_P Wow is all I can say. You really are a true inspiration. Thanks so much for your link. I am sure I will find help there.  Our set up is pretty easily transportable and it’s not so far to darker skies. I can imagine some of the people on here thinking “ This chap doesn’t know when he is well off “. Well you are probably right 😀.  Such is the way of beginners.  I will follow @Lee_P with interest. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

    Light Pollution help please

    Hi all ,

     

    I think I posted this in the wrong place first off so I'll repost here, Hope you guys can offer some advice and point us in the right direction.

    If I look at the light pollution map it shows our location as Bortle 4, however we have a haulage company not so far away who has its flood lights on all night! As well as our Neighbours recent garden lighting acquisition 😞

    In reality we are probably more like a 5 In order to avoid the Haulage lamp glow we face more towards our local town which then gives us a white sky glow. We can  have a kindly word with our neighbours so we can probably discount the polution caused by them. We are using a modified DSLR with the IR cut filter removed. I am thinking about perhaps a Filter to improve things a little. Given our circumstances and camera what filter do you guys think would be best suited for us?. We photograph mainly Nebulae ( all types) Globular clusters and Galaxies. Occasionally planets and the Moon. We are using a Celestron Nexstar 6SE with the 6.3 Focal reducer giving us F6.3  945mm  along with a F6  360mm ED doublet refractor with a field flattener. Is there an all round  filter which would help, without breaking the bank. We are thinking along the lines of a 1.25 or 2 inch filter rather than a clip in , as at some stage we will upgrade the DSLR  to an Astro camera still probably OSC. I know we are asking a lot but I am sure there are others in a similar situation who have managed to overcome this problem.

    Lovely people indeed although I was not a great fan of Phil Collins as a man. Tremendous drummer. I worked in the Music business and used to come across these guys regularly. Some pals of mine were recording recently at PG’s place 😀😀

    Welcome, love that album in your profile pic. Remember seeing them at Southampton Gaumont when this album was released , great show. I first saw them supporting Lindisfarne , who in turn were supporting Van Der Graaf Generator, way back at Birmingham Town Hall 🙂

    Was expecting, and looking forward to, a delivery on Monday. To my surprise they turned up today and the missus took the delivery in.

    When I saw the box I thought that's a bit small for the 2 items ordered. I picked it up and it was quite a weight, so checked the label and it had Box 2 of 2 on it!!

    Thinking the driver probably had the other box I tried to contact DPD to confirm this and see if he could deliver it today if it was on his van. Telephone support was useless, diverted to local depot number and told they were closed. So I tried the chat option - was about 49th in the queue but it dropped down quite quick. It turns out there are 2 boxes but each had a different delivery reference, so one was delivered today and the other is due Monday.

    Oh, the content:

    • Box 2 today had a ZWO AM5 mount snugly inside.
    • Box 1 due Monday is the carbon fibre tripod for it.

    Before I had the full details I was thinking that at least it was 'lucky' that the missing box was the leeast expensiver one to go awol.

    I'll add pics when it's on the tripod and fully scope laden.

     

     

     

    Looking forward to your views on the AM5, It's on my short list 🙂

    Glad it all worked out for you.  Our Postman is always asking me to take parcels for my neighbours which , I am happy to do. We had some torrential rain a couple of days ago and I noticed Amazon had left a large box on my neighbour's front step, It was getting soaked. I had to brave the rain to get that one. I didn't see my neighbour come home,but later saw him outside looking bewildered trying to find a parcel from Amazon. He'd obviously had the mail form them saying they had delivered it 🙂   I let him know ,I had it and we'd taken it in out of the rain. He was a happy chap as the contents were paper 🙂 Most of our delivery guys are great, but I guess they are under pressure to get everything delivered. I would imagine they will get busier as people turn away from Royal Mail after this last lot of strike action and Xmas approaches.

     I also have a 60mm refractor 360mm fl, F5.9, so the power mate would be used for that scope

    With our Nexstar 6SE SCT we have been using the Celestron eyepiece and filter kit. This has been great to get started but now the time has come to start upgrading. The 25mm which came with the scope is ok. I like the 17mm too.  Our plan is to sell the kit and replace with perhaps 3 quality eyepieces and perhaps the 2.5 powermate.  The choice of Manufacturers seems huge. 
    Do you guys have any recommendations. 
    I was thinking perhaps the Baader Hyperion range and Tele Vue powermate.  Maybe the Tele Vue Delite? What about Williams Optics?

    Eyepiece case?

    However, I much prefer the inside to have removable padded dividers like photographers use as this is so much more flexible.  This is especially as I'm still experimenting with eyepieces and other accessories.
