Had a trial run last night with boys scope, first try, thought best it looked like I new what I was doing when he is back tonight for his first go.

Got scope aligned fine but living in London is going to be a problem, saw Jupiter, a big White dot I could occasionally see some banding on and some of the moons but not much else, could not see any NGC objects which I thought I might be able to NGC1976 for example. Any suggestions on spotting through star gazer explorer 130p in heavily light polluted area would be appreciated. Will try moon and Jupiter again tonight with him but tips on spotting from london and what are best objects all appreciated. Of to beginners lounge now lol

Faint NGC / Messier objects are quite tricky to find in areas heavily polluted by light. I would recommend using filters since many have said that it helped. Unfortunately, I have never used any since there is no light pollution where I am. Unfortunately, there is not much where I am,...

Making me jealous Isabelle, hopefully we will resolve issue with light when we hopefully move to Oz later this year. Otherwise many nights in the car ahead.

Well, I teach in a small isolated community in northern Quebec. Polar bears are 2 km away on the Bay. There is little here but snow and cold. -47 cold enough for you (but not today)? My stargazing days come equipped with frostbite but yes,.. I do have clear skies though!

I guess there are pros and cons to where I am.

I wish you clear nights ahead even if this means being in the car.

Polar bears probably better company than some people here in uk Isabelle but not sure about those temperatures, hopefully Oz will allow for dark and warmer nights

The colder nights bring very stable skies in our region and complete invisibility. So I'll take the cold over the warmth. Furthermore, there's always the northern lights!

Take care Patrick and I wish you clear skies

Committed to buy a lx200 10" with loads of kit, 3 years o.d and well looked after. Pick up next Friday so me and my boy excited. Hopefully more than just White dots from there on in.
