Hi all. This may have been posted elswhere, but here goes.

My latest News Circular from the Society for Popular Astronomy

arrived today. It says that this will be the last N.C.

However, it's good news, because as from Jan 2011, the SPAs

quarterly magazine "Popular Astronomy" will be bi-monthly, ie

6 per year, instead of 4.

Some regard the SPA as a beginners organisation, but some of

the members actually do quite advanced stuff. I put off joining

many years ago, when they were called the Junior A S. They

changed the name, as it gave a negative image for adults

thinking about joining.

I have to say that the SPA has helped and inspired me to get out there and do some useful astronomy and given me the discipline to produce accurate observations. The magazine is excellent and I am looking forward to receiving the bi-monthly issue.

For me the SPA is simply a great idea. If they are thriving, I'm delighted.
