Deep Sky Stacker star count

Just trying to stack 23 light frames in DSS. When I move the slider to adjust the star count I usually go for about 50 stars.

But the series of frames I am stacking tonight jumps from 2600 stars at 96% to zero stars at 97%.

If I select the on screen noise reduction median filter it changes to 650 stars at 96% to zero stars at 97%.

Why is there such a jump? I have selected "stack 100% of frames".

Do I go for the 2600 stars or 650 stars option?

I'm worried my resulting image will be drowned in stars!!

What are the images like? I've never had the sliders that high, are you sure it's not picking up noise rather than stars?

I have read it may be picking up noise, and that I may need to look at the "star editor" in DSS to solve. Fingers crossed.

Laughing at me chatting to myself - i swapped back from TIF files to CR2 Raws and it seems ok now
