Delving into the black art of mono imaging

Hi all:

I had a chance to try out my new ASI 120mm cam last night...first try at mono imaging .It was quite cloudy, however I did get  runs of RGB.  Then I ran thru PIPP, Autostakkert and R5 (wavelets)  The senior moments became quite apparent when I tried to get the colour image via Photoshop channels......however here is the red image.  I also have elements 10, but not sure if it has the channel option for converting the mono runs to a color image(?)  Any recommendations for tutorials?
