Stellarium where I am right now

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me please if there is a way of making Stellarium see where my scope is pointing right now so to speak before I issue any slew commands, or am I supposed to line the scope up first with an object then press that star etc on the stellarium screen. I was hoping it would find my fix but the controls are not that user friendly to see where. Thanks.

select your target

click on the telescope icon at the btm of the screen
click Current item then click slew your telescope should slew to the target

if its off target manually move the scope onto the target in your usual way then go to telescope and click on the dropdown menu where it says slew
select sync then make sure you still have the target selected and click slew, the scope position marker on screen should move to the target

in the telescope menu between current object and slew, there is a box that says scope (I think, doing it from memory)
there is a little arrow at the end of the box there you should see

Scope
Sync
Abort

select the sync and then click the slew button
there is a keyboard shortcut but I can't remember it off the top of my head
its something like Ctrl + C but that I'd have to check

been having a similar problem where stellarium will overshot the target a lil bit, i then realigned the scope, never knew there was more to that dropdown box than just the word scope, certainly a never ending learning process this hobby :D

Ahh Ok

you are using the generic controller that may be why you don't see the Sync
I use Stellarium scope and EQMOD to control mine the sync sends a message to EQMOD to correct its position
that may not be an option with the generic setup as you would need to send the info to correct the position to the handset

Ahh ok, thanks very much indeed for the feedback, I think I will have a mess about for a while then if needs be ill put starry night back on. I want to set the scope up with my camera so that I can do a few things with her by being in my garage, I can always just manually align and then let stellarium take over, but the drifting between what is shown and where the scope actually is is quite a lot, the sync would have been ideal. Brilliant, much obliged for your time.
