On 29th August 2005 David Sinden passed away. The former chief optician at Grubb Parsons was responsible for some of the largest optics ever made in the UK including the 98 inch Issac Newton mirror, the 153 inch AAT mirror and the 150 inch UKIRT mirror. If you would like to know more about David and Grubb Parsons please have a look at my website https://sites.google...ubbparsons/home

The attached image shows David with Patrick Moore in Carlisle, September 1998. Image credit, Cumbrian Newspapers. Thanks to David Ramshaw for letting me have a copy of this image.

Sadly missed by all that new him.

John

Yes,when optics were hand crafted, just like at the good old days of Broadhurst & Clarkson, before Fuller came on board.

These guys were true skilled craftsmen, destined to be sidelined when mass production came along. We have to move with the times, and we all benefit from to-days Techniques.

His name will be remembered in our circles.

Thanks for posting.

Mick.
