Chris,

I think that you'd be very lucky to achieve balance as there seems to be no way to adjust the distance of the "counterweight" from the RA axis, like you would do with the real counterweight(s). Or any guarantee that the "counterweight" would be of sufficient mass.

I'd also be more than a bit dubious about hanging anything expensive off of it either.

I'm guessing, but I'd say that the sheer number of responses speaks volumes about widespread use of this bit of kit :)

LOL...yes sometimes silence speaks volumes! :)

It was the way it connected to the counter weight bar that made me a little suspicious, it certainly won't be on my shopping list anyway....
