Canon EOS 1100D vs Canon EOS 500D

How does the new Canon EOS 1100D compare to the older Canon EOS 500D in specifications? Is the second still a better camera?

The Higher MP sensor in the 500D is more demanding on lenses it needs good glass to get the best from it and this is even more of an issue with the 550D and 600D..

I always thought there was something wrong with the camera until I tried it with L series Glass... Lenses which produced acceptable images with the 1000D (the 1100D's predecessor at the bottom end of the canon DSLR range) were soft on the 500D...
