Is this dew shield appropriate?

Hey all,

I have been after a dew shield for my Skywatcher Skyliner 200p dobsonian. Less about the dew and more for the stray light help - I have a polluted rear garden.

I was going to go down the custom neoprene route but someone has offered me this in the 8" version:

Would this be suitable for my scope?

I have heard that the shield should be twice as long as the width of diameter, is this true? Does this make the above too short?

You know you can make one yourself for a fiver?, camping mat is perfect for the job. For a little more you can make one out of neoprene, check the DIY forum Adz.

The longer the better, at least twice as long as the diameter for best results. Home-made is the way to go

The neoprene I was looking at on the net was 8.50 plus 4 quid postage :/

Got any cheap camping mat places? I guess I would need velcro too, and thats it?

Yep, mine actually fits fine round my 127 Mak by itself. The curve of the roll is just right, but as a bonus the roll comes with two elastic ties holding it closed which also fit the tube perfectly to hold the shield in place. The mat came from Tesco, £4.99.

Cheapo mat is fine. You see them for next to nothing at places like Decathlon.
