EQ5 modification

Hi,

In a previous thread I mentioned the idea of extending the metal bar on which the large counterwight is mounted. This is because I have a big and heavy OTA and wish to use a lighter counterweight mounted further from the fulcrum.

It is not immediately apparent how this bar can be removed, and I don't want to go at it with Stillsons and a big hammer. Is it threaded, clamped, do other components need to be removed to get at it, or what? Any advice would be appreciated.

Once it is off, I can turn up a handsome stainless replacement: but I can do nothing until I find out how it comes apart.

Take the counter weights off. Undo the sleeve collar and then the bar undoes.

Glad to help Richard. I naturally assumed due to your difficulties that you were trying to just undo the counter weight bar not realizing the collar has to be un-threaded first.
