M42 and poor 'seeing'

Recommended Posts

I have had my first ccd for a month now and due to the cloud cover have only had a chance to test it a couple of times, so when an unexpected clearish sky suddenly unleashed itself my part of Lincolnshire last Friday I decided to set up and try m42.

I knew the sky was not great so I started with 10 of 60s and 10 of 120s Luminance followed by 10each rgb of 60s binned 2x2.

I was going to try some longer Luminance but the cloud was starting to gather so I opted for the homebrew instead.

The 120s stack of 8 shows clear signs of the poor seeing (I assume) and so I used the stack of 9, 60s exposures for the final picture.

I can't wait to try again on a decent night.

I bought the atik 314L+ in Febuary and I am using it on a wo 72mm megrez, all mounted on an eq3 mount , including my 102mm skywatcher guide scope and minatron guide camera.

I am at the top limit for the mount but it is working well.

I was pleased with the end result as I am only just learning the tricks of the trade.

regards

John
