mickonos
hi, im new to this imaging lark and i could do with a little advise. im using a mn190 pro on an neq6 mount and an unmodified canon eos 450, ive taken quite a few shots of the orion neb and the double cluster at varios iso settings and exposure times , and compared with some of the pictures on the forum mine arent that good. ive noticed when using high iso settings 800 or 1600 the black sky has taken on an orange tinge which ruins the picture, the light pollution where i am isnt to bad but do you think a filter would help the problem , if theres anyone out there whos got similar gear to me that has cracked taking good photos can you tell me where im going wrong and how your doing it, also can any one recommend a descent mid priced 2" light pollution filter
MikeWilson
If you're not using a light pollution filter and you don't have really excellent dark skies, it might be an idea. How about using a clip filter? I use an Astronomik CLS CCD and it's pretty good.
swag72
Have you taken a number of subs and stacked them or are you trying just a single exposure? That is my first question really. Are you processing them in any way? Processing them can really get rid of the LP tinge. There's some good info here that will give you some food for thought. Another purchase if you want to take good pics is a book called Making Every Photon Count by Steve Richards. You can get it from FLO, sponsor at the top of the page. It is a really good book, written by a member on here, that explains so very much on astrophotography it will become your bible and save you many costly mistakes.Do you need a LP filter? Maybe you don't if you look at the processing sections in the link above. Hope that helps.
