Lunar Orbiter Photograhic Atlas of the Moon

Ad Astra

A wonderful book, especially if you are a nut about observing the Moon in great detail and over its various phases and librations.

The nice thing about this atlas, is that it takes Lunar Orbiter photos from the 60's, and digitizes and processes them with 21st century computer technology. The result is absolutely stunning! I don't care if it was 1960's technology - the photos were taken from lunar orbit, so they are FAR better than even the best ground-based photos.

The index (or lack of one) is an issue - you may have trouble finding the named features you are looking for without a search - the reward is that this search will take you through some wonderful territory. Definitely worthy for a space on your astro reference shelf - but far too pretty to hide it away.

If I was going to put one astro book on my coffee table to hook someone's interest, this might well be the one! While it isn't a cheap book (about $70 US), the large format and huge prints make it an excellent value. I guarantee there is nothing like it on your bookshelf now!

There is also a companion book on the Far Side, too! Yeah, I know I'm never going to SEE it in a scope, but I bought a copy anyway! I justified this one to the LOML by using it as research for my new novel. If it sells well, my wife may forgive me my extravagance! :)

You can see the book on Amazon by clicking --> here :glasses1:

Cheers!

Dan
