celestron 9x50 focusing problem with qhy5

Recommended Posts

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? I thought I would have a go at autoguided astrophotography and read about hhow some people had good success with using finder scopes as guide scopes and I thought i would give it a try. I have a celestron 9x50 finder scope and I purchased a qhy5 guide camera with an adapter from modern astronomy. The camera seems to work ok the only problem is the finder cant seem to focus enough to produce a good enough image for guiding. Has anyone got any ideas how I could over come this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a BigEye finder with a DSI to guide, and I too found that getting the camera to focus is tricky. In the end I found that sticking my 2x barlow into the finder, and then the camera into the barlow did the trick :) Not ideal as you reduce the FOV and light gathering potential, but focus is now possible for me.

What I really want is a 1x "barlow" ;) Not sure that they exist tho...

Thanks for the advice I shall give it a try but I am not sure how to connect my barlo to the finderscope as I have to remove the eye piece holder of the finder to attach the adapter that screws into the qhy5 directly.

Regards

John
