Mount and Tripods as separates?

Evening good people of Stargazers Lounge.

I recently bought a Skywatcher 150P on an EQ3-2 mount. Now I'm happy with the scope, happy with the mount but the tripod is a bit of a let down as it's not terribly substantial.

So my questions are:

Can you buy mounts and tripods separately?

Are mounts universal (or relatively so) in their linking systems?

The reason I'm asking as I'm likely to want to upgrade over time and doing it a bit at a time is much easier to get past SWMBO! The tripod would be my first step.

Hi Ian,

You definitely can buy them separately. The alt az mounts i have are sold alone so i got myself a sturdy wooden tripod and a heavy duty photo tripod.

Lots of tripods have the GP style conection, identical to EQ5 and HEQ5
