Curved spider - no diffraction spikes ?

I love my Orion Optics newt but it does produce very strong diffraction spikes which can be overpowering when theres a bright star in the image. I've been looking at curved spiders, which apparently do not produce spikes but you do loose a bit of contrast as the diffracted light is spread across the entire image, making them invisible. Has anyone done any imaging using these?

Cheers

Neil
