Solar film for 10" dob

I wont to make a solar filter for my 10"dob. ive seen some images online of large dobs with solar film cut to the full aperture of the scope. I know some people say you need to make the filter big enough to fit between the the spider. Ive a 4.5 inch scope and have made full a aperture filter and it works fine for that. Has any one thoughts or experience of this.
