Spectroscopy, photometry, alt-az?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Bit of a technical question:

Assuming I can keep the thing I'm after at in the centre of the ccd field, does an alt-az mount present a problem for either (basic, Star Analyser) spectroscopy or photometry? I'm quite lazy, so alt-az is seductive but I'll go for an EQ mount if I have to.

I unfortunately have not used alt-az mounts. But I know Ken - merlin66 has used them successfully for spectroscopy - see post:

I can't see problem with alt-az mounts if you can guide with your mount and keep your star from drifting for more than a few minutes (ideally up to 10 mins) then you'll be ok

cheers

John
