UV/IR filter for visual solar observation with Herschel prisma ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After reading a few threads on CN about the topic I am a bit lost.

I bought a Baader Herschel wedge for my apo together with a ND 3 filter and a Solar Continuum filter (might need an additional polarising filter if the sun is still to bright) for visual observations.

Do I need an UV/IR cut filter to be on the safe side? The argument seems to be that the Herschel wedge dims all wave lengths equally and that the Solar Continuum filter does not block the dangerous wave lengths as the transmission curve might suggest.
