Polar Alignment and Autoguiders

How precise does polar alignment need to be if your going to use an auto guider. (the sky watcher one for instance)

If I have polaris in the correct position in my EQ6's polar scope will this be sufficient and then the auto guider will tweak accordingly?

It rather depends on whether your polar scope can be trusted and how much.
