Using A DSI III For Planets

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a DSI III Pro for imaging planets?

With Jupiter being the closest since 1963 on 21st September I was thinking of getting a few images (weather permiting). I used an LPI about 5 years ago with my 10" LX200 with reasonable results and was wondering if it would be better to try the DSI III or would this be too sensitive and best left to the LPI.

I used it to get methane band images of Jupiter. It's harder to focus than with planetary camera as it's slower. Usually bahtinov mask and focusing on planet moon solves the problem. It works nicely overall. As it's 16 bit you don't have to capture a lot of frames. Few hundred will do (and the camera speed won't allow to capture much)
