Cheshire Eyepiece vs laser collimator

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I’m relatively new to astronomy and I’ve heard the barlowed-laser is possibly one of the best methods for aligning the primary mirror but the focusing tube of my Skywatcher 130 is too long to enable me to use this method.

So my question is which is better between a laser collimator or a Cheshire collimating eyepiece?

Thanks in advance

Sal

on a tube this short, I'd personally recommend the Cheshire. I use the barlowed laser mathod and the cheshire method but the latter can be tiresome with the 5 foot long tubes of my scopes. with yours you can collimate without moving from the eyepiece.

Cheshires also don't run out of batteries and don't need collimating themselves.
